Here's another one with all the letters there of the name and really hard to make out. On the back it says "Ukrainian Field Worker" and with the look of the clothes
and the drinking vessel with a hole in the handle appears this could be from the Victorian era. All comments welcome, thanks to all ....

Emailed my son and he nailed it, it is

Charles Ashmore (1851-1925)


I agree that the signature is "Ashmore", but I don't think it's by the Charles Ashmore referenced by your son. It's not in a style that he's known for, and doesn't match his usual signature:

Thanks for your input Red-Coat and yes I noticed the different signatures also and researched them and found different styles by this artist and also found another Charles Ashmore British artist 1823 - 1903. I have to agree with you on the style as this painting is in more of the style of the 2nd Ashmore artist...
