Asst'd Farm relics - Cannonball piece?

At lunch today, I spent most of my time putting "warning" signs on two deer tree stands I spotted out in the farm woods. Since it's bow season, and I don't feel like getting shot at while detecting, I put signs on the stands to let them know I am out there too. I feel a bit better now. I detected quickly around a large oak and mound of dirt and boulders out in the woods. There are more signals in that area, but I ran out of time. I dug up these three pieces in about a 20' radius. I also dug an old drawknife too, but it was too long for my pouch. I'll retrieve it later. At least it's a sign of activity in this area.
Is the rounded piece part of a cannonball? (I can dream can't I? ;D )
Thanks for looking,
MM

MM, they were probably more than likely stacked up purposely. I would have to see a picture but there are a few reasons why they may have done this. How high and wide is it?

Josh,
I just posted more info in my "today's finds" post.
I'll try to get some pictures tomorrow or Saturday.
Thanks,
MM

Yippie!!!! THAT's what I wanna see brother!!

Your other bits are half a snaffle bit (horse's mouth bit) and a horse tack harness buckle... or other related tack

Man I'm freaking phyched for you.. if your in virgin territory... than you'll set! VERY kewl!!! Congrats!!!

I only signed on for one minute and this is the only post I'm responding to... WTG!

Thanks Big Jim.
There is so much area to cover, there has to be a pistol or rifle out there somewhere. ;)
That cannonball piece was one of my best finds at the farm so far I think.
I'm hooked now!

MM--Look, your piece (TOP) looks just like this piece that I have almost finished cleaning (bottom)! Still, love that you found some 6lber cannon ball shrapnel! It is great when someone else digs those elusive relics that you have dug and are digging. 6lb Bormanns are not an easy find, even on alot of Civil War battlefields, especially of the latter years. You are on a good spot! Keep it to yourself ;)

Thanks Josh. I'm so glad you were able to ID it for me. Looks like we have twins. ;D

Nice Finds, Looks like you found a camp site if your finding buttons. Troops would camp off the main roads they used .I have a lot of the same shrapnel you found , I found them in a confederate camp site were an artillery battle took place..and I don't think a horse bit would just fall out of his mouth and off the rein if the troops were just passing thru. Take your time and dig a bunch of stuff then you will have a better idea.
Good Luck and Good Finds...HH.. 8)

Wiil do.
Thank you.

And what about the knife that was too long for your bag?

What was that?

I just posted it in my today's finds. It was an old drawknife for peeling logs.

the rock mound might be a shooting spot* the rocks put there to make cover for folks firing might be very worth while to check the area very closely for spent in coming lead that hit the rocks / or dropped bullets from the shooting side who knows --check the rocks see if theres any "impact spots" from incoming fire if so you might line up where the fire was coming to and from leading to other finds by back tracking the line of fire -- it might be a snipers spot or artillery spotters post --- lucky you --- Ivan

Ivan,
It looks like just that kind of spot. Perfect view to the lower woods and stream below.
I'll be digging those rocks up too when I get time. I am getting signals in that mound.
Thanks,
MM

Doug, you're a true explorer! I'll bet there's a belt plate out there and you're going to find it. Those woods are huge. When you took me out there I could hardly keep up with you! :D

Congratulations on the cannonball piece and other relics! I truly believe you have a talent for honing in on hot spots in large areas.

Great job!

Thanks Dave. There are so many acres out there, I haven't even seen a part of it yet. I can't believe I found another house out there in that side woods. LMAO! ;D I got a feeling that marsh we ran into in the woods by that stream may be a good spot to hunt once the snakes are gone.

Civil,
I'll give it a try. Way back when, it was probably a pond rather than a marsh. There is a steady stream running through there too.
