Assure me this isn't a diamond...

Found clad including a bicentennial quarter and 2 Canadian. Then the ring. It's perplexing for several reasons. The band material itself looks terrible. It LOOKS like potmetal, but the stamp inside the says 925. The photo doesn't represent the stamp well, but it does say 925. The gold part of the ring is definitely plated.

The 2nd thing is that the "shiny thing" sure looks like a diamond. The setting is open underneath. I found a 24K Gold necklace in the exact same baseball diamond recently.

Why would anyone ever have a diamond set into a cruddy quality band? I need yo all to reassure me that this isn't a diamond.

Re: Assure me this isn't a diamond...

Hey Partenr
Rule out platinum,it resists corrosion and is marked 850,900,950.The stones appears to be a round brilliant cut which would date it after 1900 and by the style I would think mid twentieth century or later.Although the photos are a little hard to be sure. The stone can be a cubic,a white spinel,a white sapphire,or glass.Check under a magnifier for wear on the high spots & scratching [edges of the cuttings].Diamonds dont wear and glass wears heavilly in those spots. Then to sleep at night take it to a goldsmith or gemologist.
Nice finds,I did find real ,small diamonds in gold filled cufflinks once.

What a great bunch of feedback. Thank you all. I'll report back with the verdict.
