Attn CRH'S: It's only 11 am Eastern and silver is down $1.92oz!

Silver is taking a HUGE hit this morning. For a metal that usually trades between 10c and 50c a day, this is BIG! I've been tracking it all morning on CNBC. At 10 am it was down $2.37 oz. Talk about volatility!

I'm watching live on the CNBC ticker, right now it's 11:12 $26.92 oz down $1.986.

CNBC tracks Comex silver, which is not a real number from what I can see. Comex silver closed yesterday at almost $29 per oz (Kitco had the price as $27+- per oz at that time). I use http://www.kitco.com/market/ for tracking prices

CME raised the margin requirements needed to trade silver futures yesterday. Again the big boys making up the rules as they go.

It is very volatile right now. It doesn't surprise me at all to see it fall $2 in a given day. It also doesn't surprise me to see it rise $2 either. You do have to be careful how you interpret silver prices. Not all sites use the same calculations to track changes. Unlike stocks that trade only on a specific market for a fixed amount of time per day, silver is almost traded 24/7. There's always some place in the world that has an open market selling silver. What really matters is what the price is at any given instant. The whole idea of silver being "up $2" or "down $2" depends on what the sites deems the "last closing price" to be. If the silver market "never closes" then there really is no concept of "closing price" to even compare to.

I'm hoping to have some of my silver forged into weapons so that when the economy hits the fan and silver is worthless in luo of commodities, at least I have a weapon to slay zombies, pirates, and ninjas with.

Dude, silver is a soft metal.. like gold .. they don't make good weapons. Silver is moving back up now.. guess it was just profit takers.

Wrong, they make excellent weapons, expecially throwing stars, bullets, and daggers.
90% silver alloy is extremely strong and makes excellent weapons.

The volatility of the $$ will increase the demand for commodities...other than pork bellies...just watch, after the mindless bernanke pumped all those bills into the system and the IMF switches to gold as a base currency, watch the numbers jump.....
