average for nickels?

I'm yet to do any boxes of nickels. However I average about 1 every 30 to 40 CWR

Also I save all pre60 I have about a roll and a half. Searching for 3months

that many war nickels and buffs in one box I am finding out are a rarity. I have had a silver skunk streak of about 6 boxes now. I found one dateless buffalo nickel about 2 boxes back. I am waiting till after the beginning of the year to get back into CRHing. Hopefully then I will get time off and be able to do some major hunting.

Congrats on your find.

sincerely, Garoulady

How often do you guys get a war nickel or a buffalo? I'm wondering because i got 5 war nicks and 2 buffalos in a box yesterday. do you keep any of the pre 65's?

5 war nickels and 2 buffalos in one box is definitely not the norm for me and I've been going through nickel boxes off and on for 5 years. Sometimes I get lucky and have a war nickel and a buffalo together in a box and I've pulled two Liberty Nickels from boxes (1905 and a 1911 that still has Liberty on it). My plan for next year (or at least a couple of months) is to hit nickels hard, along with my two boxes of halves a week.

I don't do nickels too often anymore. I used to do them when I started crh. They were actually the first box I ever bought. I found 3 in 3 boxes so 1 a box and after that I went on a skunk streak and got fed up with them. Tried another box a month ago and nothing... Just some 1940s, 50s, and a couple of 30s. Nothing I personally want to hold onto. Just ordered another one though along with my dime box. Will report back from the dirty jers soon!

Got 4 more war nicks from the same bank in $32.

I find about one war nickel per $100 searched. And a buff about one per $200.

Those are good numbers..i was getting 2 war nicks per box when i was gettign nickels, only got one buff thou, and it looked like it was someones find that got mixed up when they dumped there money, it was black and pitted like it was in the ground..Plus i keep all my pre 60's

My last 5 nickel boxes gave me 3 wartime nickels and 7 buffalo nickels...
I wish I had more war nickels than buffalo nickels though.
Hh
Buff

Keep pre-1960, 1964 is the most minted nickel in history.

I average a little less than 1 War Nickel per box (13 War Nickels/16 Boxes) and about 1 Buffalo every 2 boxes (7 Buffalos/16 Boxes). I was also lucky enough to find a V Nickel in my 9th box. I keep all of the pre-1960 Nickels, some can be quite valuable if you get the right date (eg. 1939-D, 1950-D, 1951, 1951-D, 1952-D).

I average about 2 war nickels per 3 boxes (0.67 per box). I have yet to find a Buffalo or "V" in a box.

Infector,

I apologize for knowing nothing about the value of nickels, but what are the values of the dates you mentioned? Where can I find those?

I bought a 2012 Red Book which can be used to get a quick price when you don't have access to a computer (like if you're at a coin show) and it will also give you tips on how to grade your own coins. For a more detailed price guide use PCGS.com in the Price Guide section. As for those dates I gave you here are the MS-60 prices for the Red Book: 1939-D: $60, 1950-D: $14, 1951: $3, 1951-D: $4, 1952-D: $3.50. The chances of finding these in near mint shape are rare but they still are with keeping and have some good value to them. Even some of the the early mint coins in VF-20 shape are worth keeping. For Example 1938-D: $1.50, 1938-S: $2.50, 1939-D: $10, 1942-D: $1. You can always hang onto these coins and sell them on eBay when you get a bunch and make some money for your time searching through them.

My average is no where near that.

Combined CWR and MWR rolls. 30.8 boxes total

17 War Nickels found, 1 in every 1.81 boxes
11 Buffalo, 1 in every 2.8 boxes
2 V nickels, 1 in every 15.4 boxes

That is not counting this month though, I have done 92 rolls this month and found 1 war and 2 Buffalo nickels
