Over the weekend I found a neat little axe and a hard stone mystery piece. Any idea on what the hard stone is? I can see definite pecking and grinding but not sure what it is.

That first piece is nice..it almost looks like a very large blank.. the second is tuff to tell by the photos.
It reminds me of alot of stones I found on sites down here.
They showed some use wear.. not really pecking and grinding.
I always figured them to be expediant tools probably for abraiding..(sanding) wood and bone...even base portions of points.
Pretty much an all purpose sanding block.

Neat little chopper axe. I am not sure what the 2nd one is? Looks natural that was kicked around a little. Dunno.

It's made out of a river rock. It looks like an adze that was broken, ground down and reused as a spade or hoe. It stands out from the other cobbles. Hafting scars are visible, as well as shaping along the "bit". The pictures show little. I was Hoping someone would be able to look at the shape of the stone and tell what it's function was. It may be a discarded start.??

second one looks like a piece that knocked around in a field and scarred by a plow or disc

glad to seeyou are getting out me rusty cool

Like the 1st one, should of left the 2nd one for another day.
