Detector(s) used
Ace 250 and Omega 8000
I found my first 5 wheat pennies with my ace 250. If you read my other post you know where I was hunting, farmhouse built 1930s. No silver at all yet but plenty of everything else from cans, tractor parts, wire, lids, and who knows what. When I turned my detector on in all metal mode I could not move it without this thing going crazy. I started swinging and it jumped from one end of the scale to the other. Had no idea what was in the ground because there is so much junk. Finally went to the old clotheline and found my wheaties along with 3 dimes 2 quarters and 5 pennies. Hunted in the field some and found nothing but pieces of aluminum cans and other types of iron. Found no coins in the field but didnt hunt much there either. Went to the other farm house built 1856 and found that the house was sold out of our family 16 years ago so didnt hunt that. The rest of the farm still in the family but all the houses that were here when I was a child are gone except 1 and it has collapsed to the ground. Looked around for awhile and found 1 old gas fitting. Went to where one of the houses used to be and the same thing, ace went crazy jumping all around the scale from so much junk. Im sure there are some coins and other thing at all these places. Found one grave that was marked 1845-1917 so these farms are pretty old. By the way I live in carteret county now and have for 17 years. My family still live in Grainger Station. I dont get home to the farm much so this was a good time for me and my dad. We enjoyed our time together even though we didnt find much. Oh well, maybe next trip!!!!!!!

It's very special to detect on your family's farms and homesites. Especially with you dad. Maybe later you can get permission to hunt the 1856 yard also. My great-great grandfather built the house that my father grew up in, but it was sold out of the family in the 1930's. Maybe someday I'll make the 3000 mile trip and ask permission to detect. Even if not, I'm glad the house is still being used. Meanwhile, I'm enjoying my days detecting in California. Andi

Hey Neuseman, try running your 250 in jewelry or coin mode with the sensitivity at 3 or 4 bars. That helps me when I'm in a real trashy area!!! One thing that I've found that really helps eliminate a lot of digging large trash is to swing the coil about six inches off the ground if you suspect the target might be trash. Most of the time it will be a large piece of iron, can, or some other kind of trashola. That puppy will work you to death in the trash, especially when you're first learning. When in doubt dig it out!!! Good luck, BS
