Back to fields...4 more 1800's coins
Hey all,
Sorry for the delay in posting. My buddies kid borrowed my digital camera for a week on an out of town trip. So I had no camera to take pics.
Anyway, went back out Last Sunday (8 days ago) and checked 2 other fields that used to have old homes.
At the first site, I hunted about 3 hours and just before I left I dug an 1864 Indianhead Penny at about 5-6."
The next site produced no old coins, but a few axeheads and other neat finds.
I ended up closing out the evening going back to the field where I found the 1859 Canadian Large Cent.
I wasn't there 5 minutes and got a nice nickel signal. Looked down and it was actually laying right on the surface.
It was a Shield Nickel. It has the rays on the back, so its definitely an 1866 or 1867.
I believe its an 1867 with Rays.
2 days later, on Tuesday last week. I headed back to the field that had the old schoolhouse.
I found 2 Indianhead pennies. One I cannot read the date on. The other is an 1859.
Since I have not found a coin NEWER than 1864 in that field, I'm guessing the unidentifiable Indianhead is most likely from the 1800's as well.
Happy Hunting,
Chuck
