Back To The Old Country Store & Another Large Coppa!
This past Sunday I decided to make the trip to my old store site. The weather was chilly, windy, and sprinkling rain but I needed to get out for a while. I was hoping the farm field where the old store site is located had been plowed and as I arrived I could see the field had been plowed and the light rain had stopped. The field had not only been plowed with disks but had also been plowed into deep rows to be planted in potatos in the next day or two. This made for an interesting adjustment to normal detecting ... not wanting to mess up the farmers rows I walked down the alley between the rows and tried to detect two rows and two alleys for a length of about 40 yards at the time. Regardless I was glad to be out detecting a freshly plowed field and here is what I found:
~My 3rd Large Copper of the year ( I think its another King George II but I'm not sure ... not much detail but a little more than the last one I found which was at this same site about 3 weeks ago).
~3 Indian Head Pennies (1897 was the only readable date and all of these were in bad condition)
~6 Wheat Pennies (1916 and 1936 were the only readable dates and all were in rough shape)
~1 War nickle ( 1943 P)
~1946 Dog Rabies Tag
~A quarter sized medalion that has USNA - This was ID'd on the Whatz it forum as a United States National Army collar disc (1917-1920) ... thanks Montana Jim and Ramitt for the quick ID.
~A nickle sized pin that has a checkered design on it?
~A ring-like piece made of copper?
~A Gerber baby spoon piece (silver plated)
~5 marbles, a plastic button, and several nice glass shards (eyeball finds)
~2 pocketknife pieces
~A square nail and several other metal pieces
Thanks for looking ~ Jimmy
