Well Folks, I made a long day trip Friday to one of my old stomping grounds back in the Raleigh area. It was a 4 hour drive each way, but my reason for going was twofold. I was dying to find another CW relic or two, and I also wanted to get some more 100+ yr old barn wood from the property. The property, approx 160 acres, just had all the pine trees logged so I was hoping the equipment may have turned up some more relics. It was actually even harder to detect than before due to the large tracks, ruts, and pine branches left everywhere. Everywhere I stepped looked like a prime spot for a snake to be hiding. L After I got my barn wood I detected for about six hours before having to drive back home. It was a long day.
The finds were pretty slim as I’ve detected this place for about 7 years now. I did score my best Colonial dandy button ever though. I had to move a rotted log, and dig it out from under a large tree root, but it was worth it.

My finds were:

*30mm Colonial dandy button with star design, missing shank.

*Brass button w/no back mark, no shank.
*1800’s padlock

*Chewed musket ball and melted camp lead

*1948 “Fort Dodge” rabies vaccine tag

*A heavy round lead piece with threaded glass inside. I thought it was a musket ball until I saw the glass. Any ideas what this may have been on?

Thanks for l@@king,
MM

Thats devotion when you drive that far to go detecting for one day,, Nice finds

Thanks F75,
It made for a long day, but I was dying to find a CW relic or two. We moved to the NC mountain area back in 2012, and there's not much CW action here.
When I heard the place was being logged, I had visions of lots of CW relics being turned up. Unfortunately, it made the woods a very tough place to detect now with all the pine branches laying everywhere.

Hey Doug, there must have been a lot of wandering dogs from Fort Dodge.:laughing9: I found this last weekend.

Good hunt buddy!

Those big designed buttons seem to get posted a lot, but I don't think there's too many people, at least on our side of the pond that are finding too many.

Good hunt buddy!

Life must have been rough in fort dodge in the 1940's. Lol
I think that was actually the name of the medicine.
Congrats on being a member of the fort dodge club.
Happy hunting,
Doug

Thanks IP. I was very happy to see that design on the front. Too bad the shank was gone. Have a great week Dude!

Hey D, Good to hear you were back close to my neck of the woods. Not to sound cliche, but that's a dandy dandy button! I like the lock too. The round piece with the glass looks like the cap/lid to a vintage perfume bottle.

Way to go :)

Love those big button and cool lock.
Congrats
Doug

Nice finds congrats! I almost thought the camp lead were gold nuggets! Lol!

Thanks Breeze. I may come back again later this week and give it another shot. Never made it to the back of the property.
Have a great week,
DUHg

Nice finds congrats! I almost thought the camp lead were gold nuggets! Lol!

LOL MsBB. :laughing7: I wish they were. Maybe I should spray them gold and put them back for the next person to dig up? Hmmmm.....:icon_scratch:
Thanks for looking,
Doug

LOVE that button! And can't wait to see what you're going to build with the old barn wood.
WTG on the finds, MM!! :)

That Dandy is awesome bud! What a nice design

Awesome digs MM. I love the design on that button. :headbang: Those Fort Dodge vaccine tags turn up quite a bit. Found one myself a few years back.

Nice largie there Doug. It has a very similar design to the one I just found that I included in my last post, although mine was much smaller. Nice find!

Thanks Nana.
Don't tell Dman, but Quindy wanted me to build a coffin out of that old barn wood. He said if Dman doesn't straighten up soon when they go out detecting, then he may need to dig a VERY large hole out in the field. :tongue3: Those two make the "DIGGER'S" seem normal at times. :laughing7:
Hope all is well down there in Bamaville.

Thanks Abe. It's amazing how some relics pop up after you have been over and over a spot for years. :dontknow: I think a Colonial ghost dropped it running away from all of that logging equipment recently. :laughing7:
Boo,
Doug
