Don't buy that monster box you've been talking about bro.

sell the 40%'s and buy a printing press or silk screening machine to do coin art :-)

but, as I always say, marking coins is still worthless

I'm new to this but I assume you're painting 1 coin per roll right? Still a bad idea, just asking?

Told you so. That's what you get for abusing the hobby.

Tim - even if you stop painting the coins in the future, you still have to contend with all the ones that you have released in the wild. If another hunter gets your painted halves and Garda processes that hunter's dump, you will get the blame. If Garda levies the fee to the institution, you will be cut off.

I hope you are able to get past this and that you have learned from your past actions. The problem is that you made your bed and you may be forced to lay in it. You might want to start lining up a new source bank that isn't supplied by Garda.

Wow. Didn't think of that. Those painted coins are changing hands a number of times and are sure to end up back at that rolling facility in large numbers. If you run across any, you might want to take them out of town along with your other dumps. That doesn't solve the problem, but it solves it for you.

The dust will settle at some point. Hopefully it doesn't mess things up for too many ppl in the mean time.

That would be the bigger tragedy - banks and/or rolling houses so p'ed off that they refuse halves altogether. Face it, every bank and coin processor in the country could refuse to process halves and it wouldn't affect their "real" customers in any significant way.

How about using glow in the dark or black light paint or markers? You won't get called on it and you'll be the only one who knows...

I already suggested this to him a few months ago. Apparently he found some in latex formula! ......hehhe

I can't see why someone would want to desecrate coins that way anyways. what a waste of time and paint. I found an gorgeous indian head penny that someone had drilled a massive hole in the middle of. Someone was going to throw it away but I took it. All you can see is the date and that's it. My favorite coin is a 1897 canadian half penny with someone had punched a hole into the top of that coin. It must have been done when the coin was new because there is no discoloration around the hole that suggests it was a recent hole, so I hold no malice against whoever did that. I know they did that in the old days to carry coins around. But now in days its just so crude and crass to do so. Like finding a 1 dollar bill with obscene words on it. Really folks, get real and grow up. When you desecrate our money you dishonor your country and ours. Knock off the painting, the hole punching and everything else.

I agree. And this is not to burn Tim, I'm sure he's nice (albiet wee bit greedy) guy but this is a practice that is uncalled for. As Ive explained before marking the roll suits the same purpose. No ones going to unroll and reroll that roll exactly the same. Either the roll is reused and you see it or you dont cause they hopper dumped and rerolled. Painting.marking the coins not only damages the coin but makes it difficult to use in counting and ruins it some clad collectors.

If you can't play nice with the system don't play at all because you're going to ruin it for everyone else. All it takes is some exec at one or more companies to say "this is out of hand, we're not doing boxes anymore" to end it all. If that how you want to be remembered, as ruining it for everyone? If you dont like roll marking then find a better way.

Drilling holes may be for jewelry, but it's still bad.

Now there's a true statement, I get refused Ike ordering just about everywhere, what's to stop halves from going that way? Other than CRH only very few businesses order them as a novelty to give away as change. Maybe your rogue bank that carries a few on hand, but in general we supply the market. As long as Garda is making money on the halves, even with their machines getting all jammed up with paint, they will still have them available to the banks. As soon as they're losing money, we get cut off.

Some casinos used to paint halves. I've seen tons of red ones.
