Baddbluff's 2012 Totals... My Best Scores
Well, this year was pretty lucrative for me! I exceeded most of my goals for the year, and am very happy with my results. Some of the numbers:
Goals: Results:
Barbers: 1 / 1
Walkers: 2 / 40
Bens: 10 / 53
90% Proofs: 1 / 1
90% Kens: 50 / 105
40% Kens: 500 / 933
Silver Qtrs: 1 / 5
Mercs: 5 / 2
Roosies: 100 / 41
War Nicks: 12 / 15
Total Silvers: 1196
Total Oz: 215
Total halves searched: $198,719 (366 boxes + CWRs)
Avg per box: 90s: 0.29 40s: 1.77
I hit all my goals except for the dimes, which I didn't really search for half the year.
I had some very memorable finds this year. My best find was 3 solid rolls of 90% CWR halves a couple months ago. The rolls included my 1 Barber, 20 Walkers, 14 Bens, and 25 1964s. I was definitely in the right place at the right time. I had picked up a shift on a whim at a pharmacy across town and scored them at a bank next door.
In February, I called a bank looking for halves and found one that had just two rolls. Normally I don't make a trip across town for 2 rolls, but I'm glad I did this time. Bought them and scored 38 silvers! 16 of them were 90s.
I had a lot of good boxes this year, and a few great ones. Two of my best came from a 6-box buy from a bank in March. One box gave up 88 silvers (my best box ever): 87 40s and a lone '64. The other had 42 40s. 13 total enders! I picked up 2 more nice boxes from another bank in May, which gave up 53 and 23 silvers (all 40s).
I had a couple memorable road trips this year. I took my 11 year old son on a roady with me in March to a small town. I had called ahead and planned to pick up a few hundred dollars worth of halves from 3 different banks. Most of the silver we found came from the 3rd bank ($270 total, $70 in String MWRs). Amazingly, 2 String rolls had double enders and ended up being solid 40s! That would've been one hellofa box if they had the other 43 rolls! In all, we culled 100 silver coins that day (98 40s and 2 90s).
I had two other successful road trips this year. In June, I found a bank in another small town that had $480 in halves. Some of the rolls looked really old. I heard the clink of silver in the first roll I opened. One roll yielded 11 silvers. Total from this trip: 4 90s and 61 40s.
The last trip was to my hometown of Boise for the 4th of July. I had called ahead and had $270 in CWRs waiting for me at 2 banks. They yielded a total of 53 silvers (9 90s and 44 40s) including 2 solid rolls of 40s!
Along with the silver, I found a 1950D Jefferson Nickel in AU, and a very nice 1918D Buffalo Nickel that I traded for some silver. In all, a great year for me! I put a lot of time into it, though, and have since cut way back on CRHing. I doubt I will ever have a year like this one again. I included some pics of some of my best finds of the year. Thanks for looking. I hope you all had a great year and wish you well in 2013!
