Hi all, found this before work this morning and I cant figure out what it is exactly. A few ideas but nothing solid. I found it in a hilly park that used to be a ranch here in California. Maybe Division of Adult Institutions? (Like prisoner doing manual labor tag)
You all amaze me what you figure out! 20200229_083416.webp20200229_083424.webp

Thanks Creskol, do you know what DAI stands for on the bottom of the tag? I didnt find it in San Mateo County, it was about 50 miles south of there though

It might stand for "Division of Animal Industry"? Here is a vintage badge --

For your consideration is this antique badge from the California Department of Agriculture bearing a Morse-Klinkner hallmark. This is a very low numbered badge (#4) issued to a Veterinarian working as a meat inspector for the Division of Animal Industry in the Department of Agriculture. This department was established in 1919. The Morse-Klinkner hallmark was used from 1897 until 1930. By deduction then this badge dates to between 1919 - 1930.This 6-pointed star shaped badge is in nice antique condition with a working pin. It measures approximately 2.25 inches in diameter including the start protruding from the circular main body of the badge. This badge is clearly obsolete and is a collectible only. The California Department of Agriculture has since been reorganized. And the badge carries no law enforcement authority as it was issued to a Veterinarian who was a meat inspector. However, it is quite unique and the Morse-Klinkner hallmark is quite collectible.
