Just a friendly piece of advice.....go into the banks, start a relationship with the people there, and then they will help you out. Getting a phone book out and going down the list isnt going to get you very far. This costs the banks alot of money, they are doing you a favor!

BTW - I'd think twice about dumping at TD, bags fill up at $100. You will spend an hour there and you will quickly wear out your welcome.

Dumping 250$ in halves at any TD bank is ok. Dumping 500$ once a week is ok too, long as you separate the dumps. The most I've dumped at any TD bank was 500$ in one shot. I never went back to that branch to dump for over two weeks.

At my TD Bank I definitely have a good relationship, as I walk in the door the tellers, and the manager if he is out of his office, say "hello Jeff" but as was said earlier their corporate policy is no half boxes.

I have 3 boxes of halves from two different banks to be picked up today. My plan is to feed them back to 2 different banks over several days. The first bank said the first $200 in coins are free for customers then 3% after that. My TD said no limit but I will self limit. Of course if I find silver I am sure I will want to get more half boxes.

I asked a teller at B O A in Gardner Mass. if they had any halves in there teller drawers , the reply was " If your looking for silver ones your wasting your time , we are aware of them and KEEP them for ourselves ". Oh well.

At least they were honest! I would think that most tellers are aware of the value of silver.

My coin dealer mentioned that he used to see about 6 or7 tellers every couple of months selling silver, but he hasn't seen them in well over a year and a half. He doesn't know whether bank policies changed to not allow them to cull (unlikely) or whether there is less silver out there.

have 3 boxes and started going through the first one. About halfway through and found a 1976 Kennedy Proof. Needed to be dipped but dipped nice.

1976 Proof Kennedy from BWR obverse.webp1976 Proof Kennedy from roll reverse.webp

A couple years ago, when I was doing 5k/week I was dumping 2k at a a time at TDs with no issues. And I wasn't the only one.

I walked into a boa today and asked if they have any halves. The young teller, Joe said no. I asked if he can order me a box. He said no, the only way we get half dollars is if someone brings them in. I was soo pissed he lied straight to my face. I so wanted to talk to a manager or someone, but I figure I'll just return another time and ask another teller. Mind you I was at this same branch, a day ago. Asking if they can order me a box, but I didn't have a account at the time. It was a different teller that time, that denied me because I didn't have a account.

A boa branch about four blocks away ordered me a box when I didn't have a account. I ordered a box today without any problem, when I went to make a deposit into my new account.

a couple days ago I stopped by Eastern Bank in Sharon and opened an account and asked about ordering boxes of halves. The manager seemed happy to oblige so I will try them next week.
Just came up with two 40% out of my "casino" box, 95% of the coins have no reeding on edges.

I guess it really is bank to bank and teller to teller.

Liu21 - how do u know he lied? Branches all seem to have different policies. Maybe his manager has made it very well know to all the tellers that they wont order halves? Maybe he remembered you from last time, that you tried to order halves when you didnt have an account? As I said earlier in this thread, its all about relationships.

He was no where to be seen the other day i went in asking about ordering halves. The female teller Astrid, would have taken the order if i had a account at the time..

Citizens had told me they would order halves for me but today said they could only order dimes and quarters, no halves, they apologized but no halves.

I will try Eastern Bank Wednesday.

Finally got around to calling TD Bank and said I am a large account holder and could they do anything. The person on customer service had to go to her manager who went to their manager and then to their manager, and to their manager. Finally got back to me, they called the manager at the local branch and told them they can order boxes and how to do that when they are not on the order form.

So I will swing by and order a couple boxes. Prefer getting them there rather than any of the banks where I have $10 accounts to be able to order coins as if they get too many I can just pull some money out and buy them.

I will be very surprised if TD can order halves for you. Good luck!

I just got back from TD, the head teller won't be there till tomorrow and so I will go back at noon and talk to her. The manager and teller on duty just had the number corporate had given them for their operations manager. They are talking about ordering direct from Garda, I see both Loomis and Garda dime rolls there so they may have a couple contracts.

I will let you know what the head teller says. In the mean time I have 2 boxes of halves coming Thursday from another bank and the following week 4 boxes from 2 other banks. Right now I have 5 banks that will order halves for me, TD would be the 6th.

What Joe said. I don't know how much you're trying to order, but my advice is to start slow, and local. As noted, walk into the bank, spend some time with the tellers, and see if they can order you a box. "A" box, as in only one. If you get it, the following week ask if they can order you another one. The following week, ask if you can order more than one. Personally, I never order more than 2 per branch, as it's usually a strain on the tellers carrying that much at once.

Keep the tellers happy, and they'll help you out more than you'd believe possible.

Every bank I have talked to and eventually ordered from won't order a single box they all say it is a 2 box minimum.
At my TD Bank I have been developing relationships for about 10 years now, have ordered a few boxes of dimes over the last 10 years, about 4 of them. I always politely ask them if they have any CWR and never cherry pick. Also as i walk in they welcome me by my first name and I try to know their names even though I am horrible with names. I have never brought them cookies but if I am able to order a couple boxes then I will. I have noticed at TD the tellers don't hang around very long or they get moved around between branches.
My plan was to order two boxes and then in about a month order a couple more.
