Wow i cant beleive i found this one. This little buger was hidng at 7 inches deep underneath a nail. Directly touching the nail, it was a 20d framing nail, thats a big sucker. My girlfriend had the itch to detect yesterday so i thought id take her out to the fairgrounds where ive been finding wheats and silvers lately. It started off great within 15 min i had found a 64 roosevelt dime. I hit a descent and repeatable signal, bounced around 09-43, 08-43 which usually means screw cap, but the sound was clean didnt have that squelchy sound, i wasnt excited because it appeared as if someone had already dug a plug here. So i opened up the plug that was already there and scanned i with my probe, and it screamed 12-46. I dug about 3 inches behing the hole that was already dug and low and behold a nice little silver disc pops out. Looks like some one gave up on it. Only about 4 or 5 inches down but on edge. Girlfriend is a little miffed because she hasnt found anything yet. About 15 min later i get a another signal, this time i know its iron, but i get a nice little sound everyonce in a while, and it pinpoints where it im getting the nice tone. Usually if its iron it will pinpoint 3 or four inches away from where it sounds good. I turn 90 degrees and it goes away, no chirps nothing. I call my girldriend over and let her listen to it with her Whites XLT, nothing she isnt getting even a chirp. I dig it anyway. I flip the plug over and i see a crusty 20d framing nail attatched to the plug, but run the probe in the hole just to make sure, and it sings that wonderful silver song. Move a little dirt to the side and i see the head of liberty staring at me 7 inches in the ground. Girlfriend is now pissed. I was really shocked this was a silver dime, it only went off in one direction and it was really chopped up, i guess it couldnt get a good lock on the dime with the nail over it. But i kept getting a nice sound every once in a while. Glad I dug it. So i ended the 45 minute hunt with a 64 rosie and 1911-d barber dime. You can still see the rust on the barber, and im not cleaning it off. Kind of a little trophy for the E-trac. This makes silvers number 20 and 21 for the year and 10 in the last 4 hunts from this site.

Nice! Those goofy signals really can sometimes be worth diggin'. Way to go...here's to hoping your friend breaks through and finds herself some silver too. :icon_thumleft:

Nice dimes!

Finds and comments like those have helped me decide on the E-Trac for my next detector! ASAP!
