Wow i cant beleive i found this one. This little buger was hidng at 7 inches deep underneath a nail. Directly touching the nail, it was a 20d framing nail, thats a big sucker. My girlfriend had the itch to detect yesterday so i thought id take her out to the fairgrounds where ive been finding wheats and silvers lately. It started off great within 15 min i had found a 64 roosevelt dime. I hit a descent and repeatable signal, bounced around 09-43, 08-43 which usually means screw cap, but the sound was clean didnt have that squelchy sound, i wasnt excited because it appeared as if someone had already dug a plug here. So i opened up the plug that was already there and scanned i with my probe, and it screamed 12-46. I dug about 3 inches behing the hole that was already dug and low and behold a nice little silver disc pops out. Looks like some one gave up on it. Only about 4 or 5 inches down but on edge. Girlfriend is a little miffed because she hasnt found anything yet. About 15 min later i get a another signal, this time i know its iron, but i get a nice little sound everyonce in a while, and it pinpoints where it im getting the nice tone. Usually if its iron it will pinpoint 3 or four inches away from where it sounds good. I turn 90 degrees and it goes away, no chirps nothing. I call my girldriend over and let her listen to it with her Whites XLT, nothing she isnt getting even a chirp. I dig it anyway. I flip the plug over and i see a crusty 20d framing nail attatched to the plug, but run the probe in the hole just to make sure, and it sings that wonderful silver song. Move a little dirt to the side and i see the head of liberty staring at me 7 inches in the ground. Girlfriend is now pissed. I was really shocked this was a silver dime, it only went off in one direction and it was really chopped up, i guess it couldnt get a good lock on the dime with the nail over it. But i kept getting a nice sound every once in a while. Glad I dug it. So i ended the 45 minute hunt with a 64 rosie and 1911-d barber dime. You can still see the rust on the barber, and im not cleaning it off. Kind of a little trophy for the E-trac. This makes silvers number 20 and 21 for the year and 10 in the last 4 hunts from this site.

Nice 45 minute find!!

I'm Still waiting to see what a Barber Dime looks like out of the ground :laughing7:

Sounds like you have a Sweet Place to pluck some silvers

U can't beat the etrac for finding coins mixed with iron

Corinth, that is impressive.

I assume you guys know what you are doing with that XLT,

I love my XLT but i have never dug even an alone dime at 7 inches with it.

Awesome Barber, the E-Trac really does well with silver, no matter what is in the hole with it I have come to find out.

I dfound it with my E-trac, my girlfriend uses an XLT, and let her go over it with her XLT, it didnt even make a blurp, nothing. Sorry if i mislead you, but the E-trac found the dime not the XLT.

Great story and finds!

Nice find David.

I'm still amazed at what is found there considering how much time we spent there back last April.

I'm watching the weather forecasts and as soon as it looks like ya'll might have a few decent days in a row, i'll hop a plane and we'll hunt together.

Before I even read what machine you were using, I was going to write, "let me guess, you have a Minelab Etrac right?" :D

Talk about target separation! Very nice find

To give you a little background on this site, Its been hunted regularly for years and years, my uncle used to hunt it in the early 70's, and i started hunting there in 2006, with a DFX, in two years with the DFX i found 18 silver coins, no quarters and most were 4-6 inches deep. I bought the E-trac in June of 2009 and wow is all i can say, I have found over 50 silvers, 500+wheaties 60 indians and a few V's and buffalos at this site with the E-trac, and some of them were scary deep, i found an 1891, seated dime that was 10 inches down, and i found it with a 6 inch coil. Most of the silver is hiding under or next to multiple nails. If you want to learn how to find silver hiding next to iron this is the place to do it. The place is so littlered with nails, that most hunters give up on this site after one hunt, and rarely come back. But there are a few of us that hunt it on a regular basis, and still pull silver from this place. Its been a Faiground for over 150 years, so its defintley got stuff still there, but its a iron falsing nightmare.

I understood you, i was teasing you about the setup on your girlfriends XLT.

And at the same time admitting i have never even found an alone dime with my XLT at 7" .

Your E-trac sounds like all that.
