Hello Everyone,

Yesterday was probably my best day so far this year in terms of the amount of old coins I pulled from an LA park that has been pounded by Explorers for years. I met up with my buddies, Jon(Goldenapples), Mike(oknorom), and Mike(ratman), on a rather hot day (Mike, those ice cold waters hit the spot ). Right off the bat, we all had at least one silver in our pouches. After midday, we decided to try a new/old area of the park. It was so fun. The oldies started to commit suicide. Teen wheaties were popping up everywhere. I managed 7 semi-key wheats: '10S, '11S, '12S, '13S(3), '15S. Then Mike got the first Indian. Shortly after, I found my first barber of the day, a 1914D Dime. Minutes later, I recovered 2 Indians just a few feet from each other: an 1891 and 1895. The signals were plentiful. We couldn't wait to recover another deepie. My second barber of the day was surprising. I didn't expect it based on how it sounded. It turned out to be my oldest barber quarter I've ever dug: an 1892. :headbang: It was around 7", and came out of the ground with a white/grey look, similar to my seated half I found last year; a sign of oxidation. A lawnmower nicked it a little at the top edge, but at least it's all there. ;D I finished the day with another Indian, a 1903, along with 6 silver coins and 32 wheaties. Can't wait to go back there! We tallied up our combined totals yesterday: 14 silvers, 80 wheats, 5 Injuns, 2 Barbers. What a day! Let's do it again, guys!! So far this year, this park has produced 38 silver coins, hundreds of wheats, 3 Injuns, and some nice silver jewelry for me.

Some of the other finds in my pic are from a couple previous hunts. The ring says "sterling" and was heavily oxidized, but cleaned up well. The foreign coins are a 1906 Mexican 2 Centavos and a 1924 Australian One Penny.

All in all, a very productive and exciting detecting week!

Thanks for looking and Happy Hunting!

wow, I would pass out from all the excitement. That was truly an outstanding hunt!

Thanks alot, Goes4Ever!! It was quite an exciting day. I will give it another go tomorrow.

Holy Schnikeys in a Chris Farley tone! What a day Captn SE! Thats What i call a San Francisco treat minus the Rice a Roni! Congrats and the price of semi-key wheats continue to rise. HH
Coinman66

Thanks, Coinman66!! Yes, lots of "S" wheaties. I'm hoping for some of those rare "S" barbers next.

Stellar Digs Dan...

What...Do my eyes deceive me...You did not find the 2 missing pieces of that Roosie...LOL

Holy Cow ... A Double Barber/Triple Injun Whammy...Righteous...

Rock On SE Rock On,

Nick

Hey Nick, thanks a lot, my friend!! I swear those two missing pieces weren't there. You know I would have found them if they were.. ;D

That’s amazing Dan, simply amazing. I hope I can find silver like you when I start using my SE, well at least ¼ as good as you and I’ll be happy. You’ve motivated me to put down my GB-2 for at least ½ of the time and start concentrating on using the SE.

Thanks for sharing, Dan the Silver .,

Hey, thanks Anthony. Where have you been, my friend? I've got to check out your post. I see you got an SE...spend a some quality time out in the field with it, and it will reward you. Take care..

WTG Dan! I'll bet you had a hard time going home..I would have wanted to hunt there for days on end! Looks like you brought home an entire coin collection in one hunt!

Congrats to ya
Nat

Thanks, Nat. Well, I had to wait just one day. I'll give it another go tomorrow.

Nice digs!
Thanks, 93Vector!!

An understatement! A fabulous day!

Thanks, Henry! Fabuloso!!!

That was a great day hunting the old spots makes you wonder how so many old coins were stuck on that hill it must of had a 50-60% incline, I look forward to hitting it again soon, as always great hunt and great finds.

Thanks, Jon. I was thinking the same thing, but after seeing kids rolling down hills like that, and seeing people taking naps there from time to time, I can understand why.

What a day you had Dan. Amazing!!

Thanks, Rob. I can't wait to give it another try.

Yikes, by day; what a day!
You amaze me Captain SE Dan!
I wish I had some of those parks over this direction; I'd never stop swinging that thang! Lol!

GRB

Thanks, GRB. We have a lot of parks over here. Some I thought were completely nil of oldies, but I should know better to think that. The coins came from an area of a park I've never detected before. It was tough hunting because of the angled slope, but worth exertion.

Great hunt, sounds like you all got some goodies. WTG
Glenn

Thanks, Glen. Yes, we all had a good day.

I'm a little let down Dan ...One would think you could have at leat found ALL the missing pieces of that dime Just kiddin' brother. Super nice hunt with TONS of silver. Sounds like all you guys did very well. Bet ther's still more silver waiting at that pounded park

Thanks, Bryce. Hahahahaha....Hey, you know I would have found those missing pieces if they were there. I'll be giving it another try tomorrow...Why don't you take the next flight out and join me. I'll be there at around 8 PST in the morning.. ;D

I know people that would kill for a day like that (me included). congrats

Thanks, Sonny. Yes, I know a few that would give anything just to find a spot with an abundance of old coinage...

OMG Shweeeeeeeeeeeeeet. Thats a nice day there

Thanks, Jraven.

Dan,

Hey, bud, NICE haul of the Barbers! You guys in So Cal are REAL treasure hunters!!! I bet you were getting excited when that Sunray started to make that "music" noise. I am debating on getting one for my XL...whatcha ya think, friend?

As always, you definitely have a passion like no other. It would be an honor to sweep my detector next to you...you are the KING, friend!

Keep the passion soaring!

Kirk

Hello Kirk!! Thank you, my friend!! I don't think you can go wrong getting a Sunray probe. You won't regret it. Yes, that would be awesome to have a day or two where we could swing our coils side by side, comparing our signals. I would love to just swing my coil over Colonial Era ground at least once in my lifetime. Well, nothing is impossible. You never know. ::) Keep the Passion High, buddy!!

Those are some FINE coins there. A BIG congrats to you and your team! Keep it up, Captn. I'm glad to see that those silvers are still rolling out of the ground for you and jumping into your pouch.

-Buckles

Thanks, Buckles!! I wish those silver would just pop into my pouch...my hands are all puffy from digging over 100 6+" plugs yesterday, not to mention my legs are a little tired....but, I'm ready to give it another go tomorrow.

Another great collection of coins! As you said all along the explorer is one hell of a machine.... I am taking my time spending 12-16 hours a week since January learning.... It is truly a very fun detector...especially now that I can pinpoint perfectly... I also have been mixing the dfx in...but the explorer sure has a nose for silver... I just had back to back silver days again... Keep up the good work...

Thanks, Gregg. I'm really glad that you're liking the SE, and starting to learn its in's and out's. Back to back silver days is very good. Keep it up!!

Man, your parks crank 'em out. Guess if you live in California you get those "S" mint marks. Not out East.

Pretty nice variety. Barber, IHs, S Wheats ( ) and even a big old large copper.

Bob

Thanks, Bob!! Yes, we sure have some very productive parks over here. It seems like md'ers gave up on these parks long ago. That's fine...more for me and my buddies. I'm loving the "S" mintmarks. Hopefully, I'll get a few more tomorrow.

Wow , that is one great hunt Dan
Congrats and WTG----I would be smiling all week.

Thanks, Merf. Can't wait to get back to that spot.

Wow :thumbsup:talk about a great day. Must be nice to pull "S" wheat cents. Those barber's look nice as well. What did you clean them up with?

Thanks, Bartman!! I clean my oxidized silver with either a baking soda paste rub between my fingers or electrolysis for more difficult coins. Actually, the barber dime was really toasted. It was all black when I dug it. After a little electrolysis, I was able to bring out the silver underneath.

Thanks Everyone for your great comments.

Just wonderful finds as well as wonderful pics.....nice job!.......just curious here......if the park has been "pounded" then how in the world could all of these coins have been missed?..............did you maybe find a spot in the park that has recently been made available to detecting or some scenario like that?

again, great job to all of you guys, keep it up!

HH all!

Thanks, Greg. Well, the park is very large. Most of the obvious areas have been pounded to death over the years. However, there are some less obvious spots that have been avoided, or much less frequently detected, either because they are located on very steep slopes and are very difficult to detect, or there are lots of homeless/homosexual activity also in this area. That's the scenario(s) which produced all (plus my buddies) finds. Also, this is the first time I have swung my coil over this area, so I always have lots of confidence in an old area that I've never been to before.

very nice job dude! Keep up the excellent hunting!

HOLY COW DAN ~ you've once again amazed me with your finds! WOOHOOO!!!! Such awesome finds ~ you're a treasure finding maniac! You know I hate you for finding an other Barber quarter, right?! LOL ~ JUST KIDDING!!! Congrat's man!

WAHOOO, the SoCal fellers are still kicking some serious metal datecting arse! :icon_sunny:

Dan, Barber quarters and dimes are hard to come by at homesites, let alone in hunted-out parks. :headbang: You are fricking amazing with that weapon of yours, and I will never stop shaking my head in amazement! :notworthy:

As always, keep the fever high, my friend from SoCal! :icon_salut:
