Hello Everyone,
Yesterday was probably my best day so far this year in terms of the amount of old coins I pulled from an LA park that has been pounded by Explorers for years. I met up with my buddies, Jon(Goldenapples), Mike(oknorom), and Mike(ratman), on a rather hot day (Mike, those ice cold waters hit the spot
). Right off the bat, we all had at least one silver in our pouches. After midday, we decided to try a new/old area of the park. It was so fun. The oldies started to commit suicide. Teen wheaties were popping up everywhere. I managed 7 semi-key wheats: '10S, '11S, '12S, '13S(3), '15S. Then Mike got the first Indian. Shortly after, I found my first barber of the day, a 1914D Dime. Minutes later, I recovered 2 Indians just a few feet from each other: an 1891 and 1895. The signals were plentiful. We couldn't wait to recover another deepie. My second barber of the day was surprising. I didn't expect it based on how it sounded. It turned out to be my oldest barber quarter I've ever dug: an 1892.
It was around 7", and came out of the ground with a white/grey look, similar to my seated half I found last year; a sign of oxidation. A lawnmower nicked it a little at the top edge, but at least it's all there.
I finished the day with another Indian, a 1903, along with 6 silver coins and 32 wheaties. Can't wait to go back there! We tallied up our combined totals yesterday: 14 silvers, 80 wheats, 5 Injuns, 2 Barbers. What a day! Let's do it again, guys!! So far this year, this park has produced 38 silver coins, hundreds of wheats, 3 Injuns, and some nice silver jewelry for me.
Some of the other finds in my pic are from a couple previous hunts. The ring says "sterling" and was heavily oxidized, but cleaned up well. The foreign coins are a 1906 Mexican 2 Centavos and a 1924 Australian One Penny.
All in all, a very productive and exciting detecting week!
Thanks for looking and Happy Hunting!
