Battle of Medina Hunt again

...........We all had a good time ......especially me ....it was great to meet Dan, Charlotte, Baggins, Texas Connection (Albert) and many others.......Although the Battle Site was not found we had a great time......found a lot of newer relics and such and what nots!!......At least we know where it was NOT!!........I was prepared for the Rattlesnakes......Poison Ivy ......and the Chiggers.........Saw one Rattlesnake that was running faster than me......or was I frozen.....it was all a big blurr.......No Chiggers........and no Poison Ivy.....(Excuse me while I scratch some more .........LOL....)..........WHAT I WASN'T PREPARED FOR WAS THE HEAT AND THE HUMIDITY.........not sure but I think I had a mild case of HEAT STROKE or something related to it...........I had to sit down for a while to recuperate and just watch the group hunt while I helped to dig and took pictures!!.....Grass and brush was high in some places........we took several long water breaks........I emptied my canteen on top of my head to help me recuperate........but the heat was so high that I was dried off after a 1/2 hour or so!!........Before the hunt we all met at the Shell Station and Dan passed out examples of the musket balls and old Spanish Coins found on previous Expeditions....plus a lot of pictures of previous hunts.......Dan led the Caravan/Expedition and on the way to the hunt site we stopped to sight see the 1936 Texas State "BATTLE OF MEDINA" MARKER.....sad to see that it was partially vandalized......also it is in the WRONG PLACE......the next stop was the OLD SPANISH CEMETARY AND CHURCH GROUNDS..............This where General Arrendondo took and burried his 55 dead soldiers.........another plaque/state marker was on the site.........I have some pic's of the State Markers ....the Cemetary and some of the Hunters in action.....that I will post later this week........still not feeling a lot well.........Dan said that the next hunt will be in the Fall or in the Winter......our Summers are just too hot in the South Texas Heat......also hit some old schools on the way home and will posts those finds also.......

You're right Joe, our Texas summers have always been very hot. I was born in Kingsville, moved to Brazoria County in 1959, have lived in this area all my 61 years and still have trouble getting used to this dang humidity. The temp at Weimar this past weekend reached 100 at the ball field, it was warmish. Looking forward to the fall, glad you guys had a good time. HH John in Angleton......

Thanks for the pics Joe, enjoyed them. Maybe this coming Fall more of us can make the next hunt. John

Here are a couple of my finds from the Madina hunt...besides a few pennies, I hit a small wooded area across from one of the fields we hunted, and under a tree came up with a '49 wheatie, and a '47 Rosie...The green marble came from one of the fields....Although we didn't find the battle site, it was still a blast to get out and hunt! The other finds, the large clear marble, the bottle that says Hughes Bros & CO Dallas Tx. It is embossed, and quite thick...I tried to look them up, with no success...any ideas? The dog tag came from an abandoned house site in Waco, and the bottle, and doll leg came from another old site...They had torn out the street and sidewalk next to an old park in Dallas, and I had dug the 1911 Wheat out of the road bed....As always, thanks for stopping by and taking a look....

..........HEY BAGGINS.........I sure do like the old marbles.......also enjoyed our time looking for old Spanish Tombstones in the Cemetary......(no detectors was taken or used in the Cemetary)........I could tell when someone really loves history like me.......Really enjoyed meeting you and everyone else!!........

Hey Joe, it was good meeting you as well...I am sure we will hit a hunt together sometime in the future!

Wow!
I've been following the posts closely and had been looking forward to the finale. I really enjoyed the pics. Beautiful, what a fine looking bunch of MDers.
I know you all had fun and here is another positive note....
The historic treasure has not disappeared. I wasn't found 50 years ago and didn't turn to myth on some oldtimers deathbed. No, this treasure is there, somewhere. And that is exciting.
It is sprawled across some unsuspecting (or suspecting) land owner(s) tract(s)
Keep up the hard work Albert.

Oye Tejanos! What a cool hunt, and keep looking it over. My great-great grandparents were living down around Houston at more or less that time, and my wife's family fought for the, ahem, opposing side. So to me it's a very interesting post.

......BUMP....
