Battle of Medina Hunt again

Monty, it's only Dementia, don't sweat it. Trouble is it only
gets worse. True Alzeimers will get you a rubber room.

Well, I just got clearance to go as well...so I will be meeting up with everyone on Sat. morning to caravan over as well!

I live in San Antonio and there is a McDonalds and Shell at 410/hwy281 and at 1604/hwy281, the one at 1604/281 is only a mile from Medina River and I believe that is the one where everyone got together on the last hunt. So I bet there is going to be a few lost hunters waiting at the wrong Shell Gas. There are some nice hotels at Hwy 37 south and S.E.Military Dr. and good places to eat at the old Brooks Air Force base area, Most of Brooks A.F.B. was closed and now its got shopping and eating stores. From that area its 5 min. to 410/hwy 281 and 10 min. to 1604/281. So good luck on which one you pick. Found at 1917 dime today no mint mark just my luck. Long live the E-trac....

Thanks for the info Art, hope you can make it to Saturday's (hopefully) history making hunt. Did you make it to Louisiana after all?John

Well I don't want to talk about Louisiana, but I will say in Oct. 2008 I won enough to buy the Extrac but this trip I donated enough to buy a Raccoon@#$% I mean a Tejon. You win some and you lose some, might have to work at McDonald's to have enough for the gas to get to the hunt.

lastleg, I have "old timers", not Alzheimers . My mom died of the latter, so I know the difference. I just get impatient in my haste to get to the core of the matter and sometimes miss a line or two. :D But I'm much better now! I know the area of the hunt and I also know Texasconnection quite well and got a little excited about the hunt. Just wish I could make it. Can't wait to hear about the results. Monty

Monty, Just kidding with ya. Medina River is over 300 miles
from me. Would love to get my Explorer WOT coil on that
battlesite too. I know they were dissapointed last year so I
am hoping that they will get lucky and find some evidence of
that historic Texas battle.
You're no more forgetful than me I expect. I ordered four
bags of Alaska concentrate and just panned the second bag
this a.m. Felix threw in a gorgeous nugget.
Wish I could get to San Antone but I'll have to wait for the
find pics to come.
Best wishes,
lastleg

I really don't know why,but I thought it was believed that the battle took place close to Bandera? After this second hunt,if it doesn't turn up anything as the first hunt did also,I think I would try some different research. Now having said that,I really hope you guys hit it big.Goodluck and got my fingers crossed for you.Wish I could join you.

Alright guys, got an email from Dan on the location of the shell station. It is on the N/E corner of 281 south and 410. According to google it's the one where 536 also intersects and 281 goes down to Pleasanton. Hope this helps. John

these are just my 2 cents worth but wouldn't a GPS coordinate to the meet location been of some help :dontknow:
wish i could go guys but ankle surgery put an end to my ground pounding days......at least temporarily.
why couldn't finger painting be my hobby? wish you guys luck

That would be perfect and was thinking the same thing but....

Hey Brokenarrow, since you can't hunt, but are in SA anyway, why not just come down, and hang out? That way you could still be involved somehow in the hunt....Just a thought...

So How many Tneters are going? If anyone wants to pM their cell to me I will pm mine back So we can be on the right track.
Then all rappel down from a helicopter at the same time at the Meeting place.

My Latest email from Dan

I do not know the address, but when you are on 410 going south exit 281 south. The station will be on the right on the NE side of the intersection.

If it is easier for you from 1604 and 281 then you would go about three miles north on 281, but then you would drive through Losoya where we will be going. As a suggestion perhaps your group can assemble at the one on 1604 and we can keep in touch when we depart. Losoya is almost halfway in between both intersections. There is a large school on the corner of 281 and Losoya-Martinez road with a convenience store on the corner. The old Battle of Medina Monument is on that corner. We could meet there, if its not too confusing. Keep my number handy.

I too, have a really good feeling about this hunt....I know that Dan has a pretty good idea of it's location....I had read his article in Texas Monthly's April issue....and was trying to pinpoint it down on Google Earth...We may be on to something big!

Gents,

I was just informed that Saturday, a day off from work, was cancelled and I'll be working 0600-1400. Make sure you guys take a lot of pictures and let me know if you found anything worth mentioning. Maybe I'll fly over in the helicopter and harass you since I can't go :icon_salut:. Best of luck!

I resemble that remark. Just found out one of my clients had a contractor starting up on Friday and working through the weekend. I would like to say that sucks but any work is great in my book right now.

You guys have fun and I hope you take many pictures.

Read this in a old book :::::That was from a letter written by one of the Mex. officer who sent the letter back home to Mexico.

by Ted Schwarz, Robert H. Thonhoff - History - 1986 - 201 pages

... Battle of Medina" was fought near Galvan Creek in northern Atascosa County,
and not on the Medina River some twelve miles distant in Bexar County. ...
