There's just something disturbing about heroin for children lol. It's a good thing the FDA was created.

Bayer was the originator and first marketer of aspirin (1899), a year after they were the first company to mass-produce heroin for use in pain and cough medications (1898).
Don....

yep was a totally different time.

Medicine for the most part was still wide open.
if it worked for one person, they bottled it :laughing7:

Hey, if it made baby stop coughing and crying, good stuff right?

My moms she is almost 90 is from North Dakota said when she was small her mom used to give her opium pods from poppies to suck on it was something Indians in the area did for their kids made the quiet and the slept sorta like a herion pacifier.

baby heroin --- it's just *a little* addictive!

with all the drugs out there , it explains all the irrational behavior back then . racism, war, religious fanaticism . lol.

the problem is that it actually works for coughs. All them opiates do...when it's taken as prescribed that is....

Don't forget how effective opiates and opioids are at controlling diarrhea and other gastrointestinal issues. At the time, dysentery or cholera could easily kill both infants and adults due to extreme water and electrolyte loss, and opiate-induced peristaltic paralysis likely saved many more young lives than the use of such potent drugs took away.

because of a tooth ache. Bottle didn't last long though :tongue3:

Stuff was mainly for Children though according to what i can find online

My Momma would put some paregoric mixed with sugar in a small coffee/tea cup and have us drink it for tummy aches...it was nasty! :tongue3:

my mama used to threaten enemas....we NEVER complained!
