Bayonet/Small Sword

My mother-in-law, who lives in Chattanooga Tennessee, found this in her yard while have some foundation work done. We believe it to be a Civil War bayonet but are not sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

had to put it on the gray background because the granite was too hard to see the blades against

Fantastic job, DevilDog. Thank you so much. You have turned one of my "least favorite" bayonets into something of huge historical value, and I appreciate it. And I hope cgosset195 has enjoyed the fruits of his post as much as I have. Perhaps sometime in the future we will get to see his bayonet all spruced up and looking good. Except for possibly the wood handle, I'll bet it will turn out just fine.
