be prepared to cry

I know it's hard not too, please don't let your cats out to roam. They kill tons of songbirds and small animals, just for the pure pleasure of killing.

Indeed that was sad to watch. My only question is where did that other car learn CPR :icon_scratch:

I was trying to see something good in that sad mess. Yes, I view it as that one cat trying to revive that poor black cat by using CPR... If you notice that cat was working feverishly trying to bring his buddy back...

to me it's beautiful. And did you also notice how the cat would stop and then listen for breathing?

and some folks say "their only animals" -- it least the the other cat stopped to try and help its friend * -- recently many " humans" walked past a man who was stabbed trying to help a woman in NYC from being hurt --they let him "bleed" out as they walked by (some stopped to take cell phone photos--the ghouls)--without even bothering to call for help much less actually aid him (there was a security camera that caught them doing this as he as he "bled" out) it took a long time before anyone bothered to call it in and by then it was too late -- who really are the "animals" --i wonder at times?

Outstanding comparison Ivan! Very well put. :notworthy:

Yeah, we NY'ers are a tough crowd and insensitive to most going on's. People are afraid to get involved because of potential "Good Samaritan" lawsuits. I can thank god I am not one of those and I surely would have given the victim first aid, that is the only right thing to do.

I guess the Boy Scouts did teach me something good.

I have to say that I think some people are misreading what's happening. These animals don't understand death. They simply form attachments. Besides I don't think emotions are necessarily a higher brain function, actually probably one of our lower ones. Most animals act out of emotions whether it’s fear, anger or otherwise. Don’t mean to rain on anyone’s parade. It is sad though.

They may not know death, but that cat sure as hell knew CPR and was working it :laughing7:

You're right that the story is based truly on emotion for the most part. The cat did sense something wrong and was checking for signs of life like breathing. You can see the cat sniff the other ones mouth for and breath being exhaled. As far as them not knowing death, I am not sure about that either. Animals are way more perceptive then we are and just know when somethings not right.

Animals don't understand death? Are you kidding me with this? Have you ever owned an animal? I'll tell you this, when my neighbor John, died, his dog was howling and howling so I went to the door and knocked, no answer. His dog started scratching at the door and barking while I was knocking. I knew something was wrong so I just helped myself inside. Once I went inside, the dog went into the other room and layed on the floor next to John and continued howling again because his owner was dead. That dog mourned for weeks. They absolutely understand death and suffer through depression when their owner or another pet in the family dies.

Yes, I've owned many animals. If the cat understood death it would have understood the other cat was dead and not spent all that time trying to "wake it up". They form attachments and miss their partners, that much I'll concede, but you shouldn't try to ascribe to many human attributes to animals, it's not fair to them or yourself. It's what differentiates us from an animal that is important. Just my opinion.

Well if you really want to know dear, that cat was not trying to revive the other cat. It was "kneading" on it which is something they do for self comfort. They do that when they are stressed, scared, in pain and at other times they do that when they're happy. It is something they initially learn as new borns to bring on the mothers milk and it also informs the mother that they are happy and their appetites are being satisfied.

Hmm..... Dear? You wouldn't call me that if you knew me. I've no doubt the cat was confused and scared. Still doesn't imply a knowledge of death. Besides I'm more of a dog person (hence my avatar). Base emotions are not that impressive. Let animals be animals.
John

And that's what tugged at our hearts so much, the one left alone, and alive, and confused. I agree about not attributing human emotions to animals. but then again there is so much we still don't know. I made three men watch this at work today, all three cat owners with different experiences. It got to them, though they tried to pretend it didn't (Not a woman there today who is a cat lover, so I just showed it to the male cat-owners) I was curious to see what they thought. This is a very moving video regardless of "why". Alone, alive, and confused. I've seen it in animals and people both.

True enough. It was a moving video. My hearts not made of stone but it's not made of jello either. Truth be told if that cat was left alone long enough with the dead one, the dead one would probably become dinner. Stop putting hats and boots on your pets people!!! P.S. those guys you work with were probably thinking about what's for dinner the whole time they were watching that video. I'm just saying.
John

Yep.
And now I'm gonna go hold my cats.
And say hi to the two that I had cremated.
