Well here it is, day two at the beach, and the first day I actually got to do some detecting. I was going to hunt the beach yesterday evening but my luck blew away as the storm clouds blew in. Or out.. the weather came from inland and blew out to sea... along with my hopes of detecting at low tide. TORNADO watches, Severe Thunderstorms Warnings... LOTS and LOTS of Lightning... oh and rain.. epoch amounts of rain. Needless to say I stayed indoors last night. Of course it wasn't all bad. After all, I AM on vacation.. and I was with my dear wife.. <ahem> That's enough on that thought line... back to detecting.. uh.. METAL detecting that is.
Today (Wednesday).. I got up around 7:00, the sun was bright and shining in the big blue sky.. nary a cloud to be seen anywhere. The wind had died down to a mild breeze, and the normally "dry" sand on the beach was nearly dried out from last night's rain. After a quick breakfast with my better half, I strapped on my finds bag, kicked off my shoes, picked up my detector and headed for the elevators. Yeah, elevators.. We're on the 11'th floor, and that made for an interesting view of the storm last night. Down the elevators, barefooted and be goggled with sunglasses, greased down with sunscreen, I'm sure I got more than one puzzled look as I made my way to the ground floor and out to the beach.
At last, on the beach. Detector in hand and thoughts of booty to be found. Oh yeah! Sweep sweep sweep.. BEEP BEEP BEEP! I was finding stuff left and right. Right.. pull tabs, bottle caps, buried cans. Oh and a few coins here and there... very very far between HERE and THERE. Alas, my dreams of mega coinage and/or bountiful bling were not to be realized, at least not this morning. An hour and a half into the morning, trudging through the sand, I was beginning to get a little disappointed in what little I was finding. That, and the sun was climbing higher in the sky and it was definitely getting warmer... a little too warm. Sunscreen or not I didn't want to burn, and it was getting to be about time to start thinking about lunch.
By the time I made my way back up to our room, "lunch" was indeed the major topic of conversation. Lunch and <shudderring>SHOPPING. Hey, I have to bend to the will of the dark side from time to time. <grin> And so a shopping we did go. Of course there were other activities that occupied some of our time too, like some putt putt golf at Mutiny Bay. <grin> I managed to pull out a victory by 6 strokes... much to the chagrin of my dear wife. Of course I should note that as usual, I played only using one hand. Yes, only one hand. I find it much easier to "stroke" with one hand due to the short length of the putters involved and my "ample" girth. Uhhhh.. hmmmmm.. Some how that just sounds wrong... uh... <shaking head> I think I'll stop while I'm ahead. <blushing>

After Shopping, and "stroking" <groan>... my wife and I had an early dinner. It was "happy hour" after all. Half priced appetizers, half priced well drinks.. the best seafood in town! Oh YEAH!
Back at the hotel by 6:30 and in need of some walking to exercise some dinner off.. oh, and to do some more detecting of course. <grin> Again, I kicked off my shoes, strapped on my finds bag and slathered on some more sun screen... oh and grabbed my detector. On the beach I decided to detect in the other direction.. maybe improve my luck. And it did! I mean I still found pull tabs and bottle caps and cans... but I found some coin, and other goodies. And an oddity. I unearthed...uh..un-"sanded" a sprayer of mace! And it's been there a while too.

I found a toy car, the "roof" of a toy truck or tractor or something and even some rather long golf tees. I guess someone was practicing their "drive" on the beach. <shrug> . Oh yeah, there was the battery too. Well I didn't find any bling, and I didn't get rich with the amount of coin I found, but I had a great time. I wish I could have taken a picture of my shadow on the beach as I was detecting. THAT would have been a neat picture.
Back at the hotel in time to catch the American Idol Finale with my wife, and to apply some cooling relief of Solar Caine...aaahhhh. I snapped some pics and now I'm sharing them and this little vacation update with all of you. Wish I could say that I'm kicking butt on the beach, but I'm not. At least I'm having fun. Of course the beach, or stretch of beach, that I'm hunting on isn't the busiest beach in the world, I guess I could find out where a busier beach is and go detect there. <shrug> We'll see. For now though, I'm happy just being on vacation... taking in the sun and sand and surf. Tomorrow we are poolside, at least for the later morning hours, till it gets too hot or we start to burn through the sun screen. <grin>
Here's the loot for today. Maybe I'll have more tomorrow.
