Been Listening to You Guys.....Got a fire lit under me.

I'm fairly new to this kind of collecting, just bought $1500.00 in Silver Eagles, but got intrigued by the tales of CRH, so having spent most of my allowance on the Silver Eagles, I decided to hunt down $100.00 worth of Half-dollar coins, and after searching 4 or 5 banks, I found one that had some, so I pounced on them.

4 rolls were skunks, but one roll had 2-'67's, 1- '68 and 1-'66 for a total of 4-40% coins out of just $100.00.

I thought this was a pretty good haul, and on TOP of it all, the bank where I found them hasn't been hunted and will be a good source. I'm going to get 500 next time.

nice score...so 4 of 5 rolls were skunks you say, so im taking from this that you received $20 rolls? if so, you should go back as soon as possible and get all they have, because these rolls seem to produce more than usual. keep it up and hh!

Naah, these are $10.00 rolls, I got all excited and said it wrong..LOL, I had 5-$10.00 rolls and a single envelope with $50.00...sorry........But right now, having ALSO caught the bug, my wife is plotting a trip to a Saturday Branch tomorrow to scoop up some more.....LOL!!

I started to coin roll hunt. I did $15,000.00 in half's in two weeks and $5000.00 in dimes over the same two weeks. I got coin rolls from over 30 banks and had no fee machine's to give money back to the banks. I spent more time and gas than what it was worth to me to make $450.00 in melt value. I think I could have worked my job for 20 hours saved the miles and gas in my car and spent my time just buying the silver and still been a head. good luck to all you diehards. Its just not worth it to me. To work for $5.00 per hour after gas. I often think if i put the same time in picking up pop cans at .10 each if i would have made more money.
This is what I learned.

Sorry to hear that. It is just a hobby for a few of months until weather gets better. Remember thats is $450 tax free.

This is what I learned.

And this is why some don't understand about CRH'ing. It isn't about the expense/profit. It's about the the thrill of the hunt.

Case in point: I went to the beach the other day. Swung the detector for an hour and half. Bought lunch and paid for gas (not to mention the season pass for beach access). My efforts yielded 12 cents and a pocket of trash. Certainly when looking at the expenses, it wasn't worth it, but it is all about the thrill of the hunt.

I have to agree my fellow Tumble....it's not worth it, but like others have mentioned, it's all 'bout the thrill. There once was a point in the hobby for me, in which I turned down overtime at work to roll hunt and dirtfish. I've since come to my senses!
Some on this forum are unemployed and the crhing does help pay the bills. Personally, I've had this roll hunting thing in my system for over 30 years, and i will probably never shake it.

I'm a Disabled Vet, with limited means, and have been looking for an opportunity for a long time.....We have JUST NOW gotten to a point where we have a few bux to start up with, and are thus far having fun with it. Crh-ing is a good supplement for our circumstances, but I can see how it could drag others down who don't have the time to devote to doing it full-time.

I wish pots of gold to all....maybe I'll get to find a nugget here and there. I just wish that Florida hadn't made "dirtfishing" so difficult, or I'd be all over that too.

Thanks very much... I often shrink from being thanked for MY service when our kids are coming home with horrors I never experienced......I wish I felt that I deserved it as much as they, but I still like hearing it someplace deep inside, Thank you for the absolutely kind thought.

P.S. My wife who has caught this same virus, is plotting a Saturday search and is now including DIMES in her sights...It's fun to watch her "Shopping Gene" kick in in this way.....LOL

Agreed, I know I won't get rich doing this, but making a few extra bucks sure does help! And everyone is right, it's not about the profit (although I do enjoy that aspect of it), its about the "wow factor" when you get a nice score, whether it was a silver Ike proof I got, or the bag that yielded $1000 in silver or the 5 morgans I got last month that even had an 1878cc.

Can I sell the silver and pay a few bills? absolutely, but at the end of the day, I am attached to the silver that I foraged and am less likely to get rid of that than the silver I paid close to melt value for. I love the thrill of the hunt, and even finding 1 40%er at the end of an otherwise fruitless day of foraging (I work weekends, so I use days off during the week to hunt) makes me want to come back for me. Yeah I probably spend a lot on gas, and the amt per hr is minimal, but boy are those scores addicting and make me want to keep hittin the road.

tumbleinn2, You must be in the UP. Took a road trip a few weeks ago and searched a 100 mile radius in the Western UP & Northern WI for about a week and hit every bank there and it seemed that someone has allready bought all the half's there. Spent $300 on gas for $100 in silver but I had fun.
