Being as it was such a nice day, I took my old Sidewinder for a walk!

[creskol]

Spent about 2 hours in the woods and the only found one thing worth keeping

Cool! What does the other side look like? Congrats!

[Almy]

Coin or button?

[Silvermonkey]

That's quite something! What is it?
PS- I love the quote at the bottom of your post. Where is it from?

To tell you the truth, I am still trying to figure that out. I am probably overlooking it in my books.

The best I can determine it is a very early U.S. Official button.

Extra nice find! Your pic says "device", so it would probably be worn on the uniform collar.

Thanks Kray! I am not real sure why it is called a device in the description when in the introductory paragraph they call it a button. I do like the RV 50 though That indicates that it is a rarity.

A little more info on this button...scroll down 9 spots or so:

It shows this button is earlier than I had thought, dating it to 1802. Wow .. 😵‍💫

Sweet find!

[Gare]

It is a NICE FIND I THINK If you do not like it or want it you can SEND IT TO ME :_ !!!

Nice going

[Mud Hut]

The historic value and rarity of your button certainly would qualify it as a banner find. I don't recall any of them being posted on here before in the 9 years I have been a member.

[creskol]

That's great, it still has its shank standing tall. That makes it even better. That sidewinder looks ike it needed a walk, and it sure showed its appreciation by sniffing that one out.
