Belt Buckle - Pirate? Missionary?? Any idea's please????

Hi folks here is a belt buckle found recently, it is marked as follows:
Lat de 11.9 N
Long de 60.42 W
Anno domini 1759
it is a brass contruction belt buckle it is 5 - 6 inches tall.
Any idea's or thoughts??
The Long/Lat seem to refer to a point just off the tobago coast.
All the best
Andy

Interesting buckle. I'll leave the dating and other stuff to the experts.

Also very nice engraving.

Thanks for the comments guys, it was found nr where I live here in Cornwall England, no the leather was added later, it certainly appears authentic to me, the colouring etc etc and the style of engraving but then I'm no expert.
Laters Guys

ps Although I'm not wanting to sell it it would be interesting to know what people thought it might be worth?

if you punch in those coordinates in google earth it brings you to a spot just northeast of Trinidad. maybe a shipwreck?

Anno Domini is latin for "In the year of our Lord" hence = A.D. 1759. your coordinates represent possibly something noteworthy that may have happened at that particular location. maybe a battle or a marriage or the location of a ship that sunk and the holder of this buckle commemorated his survival with its coordinates..... which would indicate that he may have been one of the more educated people on the boat..... just a guess though. good luck anyway......providing that the coords are accurate within a few degrees it is certainly possible you have a lead of some sort....:)

Unique "one of a kind" that's for sure!! You may never find any specifics, but it sure would be neat to do some searching to try to figure out what the coordinates relate to and possibly who the buckle may have belonged to.

Very very neat find!!

Fuel for the imagination.
In 1759, the British captured the French colony of Guadeloupe during the Seven Years' War. Naval engagements everywhere. With British, French, Spanish, and Dutch colonies all over the Carribbean, I am sure a good number of ships went down in the area. Privateers, pirates...Arr.
