So I walked into a bank today with my usual dumps. It wasn't my normal dump bank, as it is out of the way. Anyways, walked right up to the teller and got this response "you should see how much silver we get every week!" I drop my jaw, but this response follows " looks like you have quite a bit yourself" -.-

Thought it would be great to hear any other great comments you have got from dumping halves at a bank ;D

Another good one I got was "oh yea! You collect em right?! I know the JFKs are silver and other coins were silver before 1975, right?"

Or, ( while counting out $5 in halves ) " one dollar, two dollars,... 9 dollars, 10 dollars. There you go!!" >.<

HSH!!!

My favorite (and its happened several times), "Are you looking for the large half dollars or the small half dollars?"

We don't have any halves/dimes/nickels/pennies at all...

My personal favorite:

"Why does everyone ask for these?"

That question is like music to my ears.

My favorite: "OMG, you must have been saving change for years to get that much!"

Maybe I should respond with "Not really, just picked all of this up yesterday at the bank across the street?"

I live in the hood. I was dumping about $200 in nickels at a coin counter at a bank in a grocery store. A kid walks up and says "dang, you could bail somebody out with that."

teller--"sorry your halves did not come in. the fed is out of halves." ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)

When I ask for halves, many tellers ask if I am a collector, but the best question I had was "Are you looking for the gold ones?". It actually caught me off guard for a moment, then I had to restrain myself from busting out laughing.

teller "i'm sorry we don't have any halves--we have a bunch of people come in that are hunting for silver and they buy us out of halves."

Sorry, the contest is over. You win. No one is going to top that :)

I've got about the wierdest looks ever asking for penny boxes.

things like...

"do you know how many pennies there are in 4 boxes? "..... with a response of yes... 4 billion

and things like..." why do you want four boxes? are you one of those coin stackers....?".... real weird right?

also i'd dump some boxes and fill a bag and see them open the vault... holding 50+ boxes of cents... then i ask if they have any i could buy.....

then they say no... we dont have enough..... BULL SPIT

we got some big dollars and one of them looks kinda funny. Is it real and do you want it?

It was an 1880 Morgan dollar and I bought it for $1.00.

Just today. "Have any 50 cent pieces, Half Dollars in" in my fake Australian accent.

Teller dude: you mean like Quarters?

Me: (trying not to laugh) No Kennedies half dollars

Teller dude: These? Takes out $5.50 in loose containing 2-90% and 5 40%'s :headbang:

Me: Yep those are them, I'll take them. Sent him off to go check the other tellers, no luck.

As I was walking out of the bank...poker face off...Booyah!!! yelled it out loud.

You mean like quarters?? lol

Had a teller tell me that she had checked all of her halves for silver, and they were just clad. Did I still want them???? I did, and she handed me 4 or 5 (can't remember) 40%ers.... Sweet.

My seven year old son asked a young teller if she had any Eisenhower dollars (his favorite). She replied, "I don't think they've come out with those yet." :laughing7:

When I said that the halfs I am dumping were my Grandmother that just passed away I got this from the teller,

" Dam, how many times is your Grandmother going to die this year". " Didn't she died last year too"

On day when I asked for large dollars or half dollars, a teller hands me a pile of nickel half dollars and dollars, and also 1972 Kennedy halve.
Me: I would like to buy this, this and this, and also this US coin.
Teller: Ok, I would sell this (poiting at Kennedy) for 1$, because this is a large dollar.
Me: ;D Sorry, but it's a half dollar.
Teller: Oh ok, and gives me that 1972 Kennedy half dollar for free.
Made my day. ;D

Response from a young (perhaps 18-20) female teller, made in a sincere, kind, trying-to-be-helpful way--

Me: Do you have any of the large dollar coins? You know, the big ones?

Her: No. I think...you should...try a museum?

How about "I am so happy to get rid of these (halves). They take up so much room."

You should have said both your parents are divorced and remarried so in a way you have 4 different grandmothers. Of course you could only use that story 4 times. :laughing7:
