Best way to clean shield nickel

Stinky proven way on silver is: Place coin on foil, gob of spit, wrap, hold, gets hotter than a pepper, stinky, egg/beer fart, unwrap, rinse, repeat if not liking the result.
Now why I say spit? Seems to have the properties water doesn't, maybe the PH levels in the spit.

I dug a black crusty shield nickel and could not make out any features. Tried this and it complete cleaned the coin and I could get a date. Would not recommend on something of value though.
