BH Treasure tracker IV settings... gold or silver only?

i've had this MD for about a month,
have been to some local parks, a few historical spots ,a few fields, and river beds
and it does definately
pick out coins , and pull tabs,bottle caps, beer cans 10 inches down
ect.. i have found a handful of wheat cents, a couple bucks in semi recent clad
a piece of an old sled or wagon on the freedom trail here in CT
a couple pieces of dollar store jewlery at a local beach
but nothing earth shattering yet
i would like to hit a couple fair grounds and ball fields now that the season is winding down and a few hundred people have walked these spots ,a friend found a gold class ring in one of the ball fields, just sitting in the grass flying a KITE ! (i told him thats wrong and buy a MD)
anyway.. i been kinda wingin the operation of the MD usually keeping it switched to the far right on TONE, a little back from full on the sensitivity and Discrimination on low
-never had the directions to the MD- so correct me if i'm wrong on using it,but seams to be working OK so far..
question i have is ..anyone know if the instructions are downloadable or can be gotten?
and say i only want to search for a known lost gold or silver item ... how would i adjust the MD ... i tried to experiment with the wifes jewlery to probly only confuse myself further...
but thought i should ask someone who may really how to work this correctly and clear my confusion... (sometimes when someone else tells you it's easier to understand)
would i go to disk and turn up the discrimination to search for gold/silver ?
one of the great adventures i am looking forward to, is i have a friend who offered me a lift on his boat to a few off shore small islands near mystic,ct and the RI boarder
where history has shown MANY old wrecks have gone down... and figure... sounds like
a good place to MD ,where the beaches get mashed by weather and waves.. and not too many possiblities of many others with MD's out there,
..i know if i thought of it... someone else has already.. but can't win if ya don't play right?

I don't know which detector you have so any help I give will be general. If you have a ground balance, use it. This alone is the most over looked adjustment many don't bother with and miss half the stuff. Many believe that a high sensitivity setting will get them deeper. This is 100% false in some places. The detector has to see more ground under the coil an decide if what it "sees" is a high enough conductivity to sound off or not. A setting of about half is enough. As for discrimination, turn it down so enough so it sounds off on a pull tab laying on the ground. It will now sound off on 90% of the gold rings. Silver rings or coins will sound off deeper and louder as they are high in conductivity. If you don't hear the pull tabs, you'll dig a gold ring by accident only. Sorry, that's the way it is. Even the screen displays only say it might be a pull tab, as it could be a gold ring, nickel, or a bigger piece of tin foil.

The Tracker IV has auto ground balance. Your big problem is your sensitivity should be as high as the ground allows without falsing. You'll know when it falses because it will literally sound off just about everywhere you sweep. I'd start with sensitivity AT MAX and if it falses turn it down.

I'll run through the settings:

Disc - Very good setting for high trash areas, it will find coins first and foremost. Otherwise I really don't use it.

Tone - Best setting. You want sensitivity as high as the ground allows. The disc knob also works as a notch, if you set disc at the LOWEST setting, it'll filter out iron only and give you everything else as a single tone. If you set the disc at noon (1/2 way), it'll give you a 3 tone sound: high for pennies, dimes, quarters, silver, etc, broken tone for trash items, and a low tone for gold and nickels. This is best overall setting for anywhere except the beach where you want no disc except iron.

Sensitivity as high as possible without falsing, TONE mode, disc 1/2 (noon). You have to get used to the tones.

Now if you're at the beach, I feel every target that isn't iron is worth digging regardless of the tone. Best settings here are setting the sensitivity as high as possible, TONE mode, disc at lowest setting ( you only want to filter out iron).

The only problem with the tracker iv at the beach is depth isn't that great. It will find most anything < 5"-6" or so in wet sand, deeper in dry sand.

All metal provides the maximum depth you can get out of the tracker iv. I only use it on faint signals to help pin point them.

Oh yea, in TONE mode, disc 1/2, silver will be a high tone, gold a low tone.
