Tried a favorite little school house today. The school's fairly new, but the ground isn't.

I found about 2.50 in clad and this button.

The back is kinda weird though.

So, button experts? Think ya know? Well, I'm sort of pulling your leg a bit. Here's a dime to compare for size. ;)

Truthfully, I can't see anything on it, front or back. No clue what it used to be. It's fairly heavy, either brass or copper. (shrug) Was down about 8 inches.

This silver made my day though. Some sort of sterling brooch.

I can see the sterling mark, but no other hallmark.

It was down a full 8.5 inches in some decent, old, black dirt with really deep roots.

But, what really makes it worth the effort? Here's that dime for size comparison again.

I figure it's old silver and it weighs in at 10.28 grams! A NICE solid chunk! Even if I do say. :)

Thanks for peeking!

Thanks! Yeah it is pretty large. Got a pretty good hit on it, even if it was 8.5 inches deep. Kinda strange though. It gave a VDI of 82-85 on most sweeps but gave an occasional 91. The same thing happened on the walking liberty half I got back a while ago.

The pattern of this brooch is so familiar to me too. Just can't place where I've seen it before.

Anyway, thanks for the response!

HH!
