Big Dollar coins

I always ask about the big dollars when looking for the halves I buy and sometimes the teller will have a few. So far they have all been 1971 and newer, is there any reason to keep these or should I spend them and get them out into the public? I now have about $80.00 worth.

I have heard of people selling them to coin dealers and getting a good bit over face. I have a feeling this is pretty uncommon, but it is worth a try!

There are a few varieties worth a little extra. The type 2 1972 is one.
