Big strange silver coin in a Kentucky field.

[Deno]

We started out hunting an old house built in the early 1800's, I found 2 Indian heads in
about the first 10 minutes, a 1905 that I managed to put a big scratch on and a nice
looking 1895. I gave the owner his choice and he took the 1905. The yard was small
and we hunted for about 2 more hours with no luck. The owner told us he had plowed
up part of an old foundation in the back field and we said show us the way. It took us
a little while to find the debri field and then it was on. I found 2 thimbles and a couple
of belt buckles. Weaver found this strange half dollar size silver coin made into a necklace.

That's a nice find Deno. Given the coin is CW period, were there Louisiana CW troops in the area? HH, Quindy.

Here is one of the references I had:

2nd KY Cav but the one you dug does look more like a corp badge. Great find!!!

You know somebody really missed that coin when they lost it.

To everyone else who replied--thanks for a great history lesson.

I was speed reading through the post, didn't catch that you didn't find this find.
Already posted for Banner, my bad.
At least your buddy is ecstatic, and I'm sure you're as happy for him.

Very nice find. Awesome. Anyone know what it is?

[HEAVYMETALNUT]

that thing is freakin SWEET!

[fetcher]

The one coin looks like a Turkish Flag necklace pendant.

I'm most likely wrong, but maybe someone was Turkish in your area and lost it.

Very nice find. Awesome. Anyone know what it is?

I think that's already been established (at least in my mind). It's a German Thaler fashioned into a Union Army 7th Corp. badge.

Cool find!

[history hunter]

That's really cool!!

[halfdime]

That is a wonderful find! The question that remains is: why no banner? Or am I missing something?
