Any that go bleep !!!!!
A JOINT operation is underway this weekend to ensure the safety of the West Sussex coastline, after more than 2,000 tons of timber was reported to be floating towards the south coast.
The cargo ship Ice Prince was on her way to Greece with more than 5,000 tons of wood when she sank 25 nautical miles south of Portland on Monday.

Her crew of 20 was rescued, but some of the timber they were transporting was lost to the sea.

Strong winds and rain are expected to continue through the weekend, and it is too dangerous to try to recover the cargo from the ocean.

There are concerns that the sea could throw the timber against shingle banks and groynes, causing flood defence damage.

Re: Biggest beach find ever England

Dang, that's almost as messy as the Home Depot lumber department after a busy weekend.

Re: Biggest beach find ever England

Do you think ANY wood can be salvaged, or will the sea water cause it all to have warpage?

Re: Biggest beach find ever England

Wow, great pics and story. I'm sure most of that timber could be recovered fairly easily - if you're quick enough

There is a £2500 fine for taking any as the shipping company is moving it up the beach then selling it off. If they let people remove it for fire wood etc it would get cleared in a fraction of the time with no cost. I live near there and a friend of mine has a floor out of it ;D ;D ;D

What a mess, sure glad the crew was saved! HH

At least the shipping company is taking some responsibility for the mess. You so often hear of these kind of things where the shipper/freight company just lets it be and it is a free for all.

What are those strange buildings with docks? They look like they float when high tide is in or else their docks are build an odd way.

They are Piers not for docking. The high tide doesn't float them it stops just short of them.

Re: Biggest beach find ever England

That sure is one heck of a mess. Glad no one lost their life.

If they wanted to get rid of the lumber a few signs " Free Wood" would have the beach cleaned off in no time.

Nice pic.
