HEY GUYS AND GALS

Out for a hunt on the salt shores as the tides are full now .... hunted on land all last week ..tried new spots with no success. So decided to head to the shore.

Pulled this pewter button outta the mud....... was very surprised to see it Octagon shaped.

I have absolutely no idea what is on it ....but is in good shape !!

Also no idea on what the copper piece is either.

Please help me out with an ID on these items if you can. !!!!!

I'm not sure it's from a cufflink having a regular loop shank. The way the back is cast is a little different too, it seems to me anyway.

More likely a button from a coat sleeve and possibly Tombac, it's also not the Tudor rose, as there are no sepals on the Rose, nice old button though

Edit...actually looking again I do see the sepals on the Rose..

Great finds Aqua! Thanks for sharing...

Try the baking soda /tin foil, and salt rub, if you can get any "shinny" it might be, but with all due respect to Casper it is not going to happen. The casting line is pretty much definitive, and I'll bet any amount....any takers ?

ty RICK

Thinking its pewter also.....will try a small scratch on the back later today when I get back in.

Aqua, nice button! Keep them coming!

My guess is pewter rose cufflink. Aqua, you're making me jealous with all those musketballs you find. I love them and treasure the one good one I've found over the last five years.

Gimme your address ...I,ll send you some...I got about 48 lbs of them now.

So is it related to the Rev War or just of that time period ?

Nice octo-find. Surely a cufflink. I've found a couple. Mine are brass. Might want to file a bit on the back to see the base metal.

I bet those brass ones are pretty .... you got a pic of them ?

Very nice finds Aqua, that's a lot of digging right there! :occasion14:
Love the 'Tudor Rose' Button, definitely looks early 18thc to me.

Oh that's ok buddy. You leave the land to old honest Abe! Hopefully you got lots of water sites. I would hate to see you run out of sites bud. That'd just be awful :-)

You better get a going..... think this button takes the lead so far .

Honest Abe better take some vacation time and buy a new shovel or trade in that old clunker T2.

That's definitely a cool and unusual tudor rose button Aqua. And in great shape for pewter. I'm sure being in the muck for all those years helped.

I,m very happy with this button....having the clasp intact is a bonus...very few so far are intact.

The saltwater usually destroys everything it touchs for me......still amazes me that it preserves pewter. Maybe I need to have all my fishing gear made of pewter :tongue3:

Was getting disgusted digging all them musket balls....threw away the last 15 or 20...my pouch was getting heavy and I already had 45 lbs of them at home. Early 18th on that button would be nice !

Got screwed this past weekend with work and weather but that WILL NOT happen again my funny northern friend. Just talked to my buddy with the boat and we are ready for some old island adventures soon. Nice button for sure but there's a lot of time left in this hunting season my man :-)

Most of these type date to early to mid 18thC...

Let me put my two cents in on the octagonal "button". CUFFLINK!! I have found a number of them, some with the loop attached and have seen a number of them posted as a linked pair. They were popular in the 1750s to 1780s, then the oval cufflinks came into vogue.
