HEY GUYS AND GALS

Out for a hunt on the salt shores as the tides are full now .... hunted on land all last week ..tried new spots with no success. So decided to head to the shore.

Pulled this pewter button outta the mud....... was very surprised to see it Octagon shaped.

I have absolutely no idea what is on it ....but is in good shape !!

Also no idea on what the copper piece is either.

Please help me out with an ID on these items if you can. !!!!!

Just when I was thinking I found something special......now I know why you wasn,t impressed with my Octagon..haha....now that is a nice OCTAGON you got there !!!!!

Yeah it's likely the most impressive civilian button I have ever found. It's quite large too.

It didn't really come to mind until Rick posted his, and at the end of the day it's non military so I only have moderate interest in it. Still like it, but just different. But it is very rare. ;)

Damn that button is INCREDIBLE!

Steve I did get one octagon of coat size, <img src="http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=986968"/>
Man Ricks button looks old! Very nice

That's a great button Aqua,

I'll try to track them down. Not much on organization. Mine are two of them, connected, thus my case for cufflinks.

I have had a couple of 'plain' tombac type coat size buttons but not with a rose design.Even with the 'not flatten' loop I still would go with linked button/cuff link. The good news is that a pewter version of this 18th C type is much harder to find.

PS. the only reason it doesn't have the usual shank is because of its metal type & construction, ie. hard to achieve with cast pewter.

Was getting disgusted digging all them musket balls....threw away the last 15 or 20...my pouch was getting heavy and I already had 45 lbs of them at home. Early 18th on that button would be nice !

I think that's hilarious that you "threw away the last 15 or 20" musket balls you found"! I get excited when I find just one here in Ontario! :laughing7: That button looks very early, although I'm no expert ... I bet Crusader would know for sure, maybe send him a PM with a link to your post. :icon_scratch:

Dave
PS. Just noticed that Cru posted above that it's18thc! :occasion14:

LOL...ya..them musket balls drive me crazy here...hate to dig them ..but if I don,t when I get the signal..I might as well stay home as it is the same signal as the buttons.
Got 48 lbs of them now... will give some away to a good home if you know of any :tongue3:

The beaches serve you well...nice finds as always!

Here's the back of one of the octo-buttons/cufflinks I found. It had another matching part I can't find right now. Front: octbut1.webp
