What a beautiful day it was so I ventured out during my lunchtime from work.
I started walking the edge of the property that our facility sits on, enjoying the weather, watching the birds in the trees, and looking out for possible areas at the tree line to detect.
I spotted a beautiful bluejay sitting on a limb and swung my camera up to take a picture. When he flew away, I stepped back a couple of steps and looked down at my camera to see if I got a good shot.....and there it was!!!
RIGHT AT MY FEET!
My "find" of today. :o

Needless to say, I will not be detecting THAT side of the property.
I went back inside. :(

I shared this picture with ModernMiner and few other choice employees when I went back inside.
The picture is not for the weak hearted. Ekkkkk!

Re: Black Friday....ekkkkk !

I don't know what type he is. I let him have his space. LOL.
I eyeball measured him and he was about 4 ft., but he was in that "S" shape, so I am guessing he would be about 6 ft. long if stretched out.

He can have that side of the yard, it's all his!!!!

You gotta be kidding me. I've already decided that my summer metal detecting will only be in well mown areas.

No ticks, no spiders and especially .... NO

That guy is no harm to anyone but the rodents, birds and amphibians. He's not poisonous and was just out making a living like all of us. Without these guys, we'd be over run by mice and the likes. People have been made to think all snakes and bats etc. are evil, but they're just a part of the grand scheme of things. I think it's a very handsome creature. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't want one for a pet. Nice picture.

Nick,
You know me too well. It was a rubber snake that I tied some clear fishing line to and pulled it through the grass. The bluejay was real though.

That's OK... I'll just stay over on the lawn, practice my chipping and make sure my first aid kit has enough ointment in it for your insect bites and Bills poison ivy.

EEEEUUUUU

When they start hissing i run away.

Don`t give up there Debbz.

EKKKK~! I hate snakes! :D They're already out here too. :-\

Debb, you had the guts to stand there & take pics :o...not me. I'm gone.

Civil, let me tell you something, what would you had done if that was a cotton mouth or a cobra??? Yea sure! :tongue3:

They're out here too, I got my eyes wide open all the time. ::)

 RR

I am not fond of snakes either, & prefer to keep my distance, but as a lover of nature, I have to comment on the extreme "curviness" of the critter in your pix. I took a pic of one in early spring last yr, with the same curve. It must be from being in a coiled position all winter?? just curious.

I was deer hunting at Fort Hunter-Ligget in the late 80's with a friend of mine. We were walking some scrub, hoping to spook a hiding deer, when my friend suddenly went straight up in the air, and then I swear, somehow moved sideways while in the air. It was like watching a cartoon. I asked him what had happened, he said he had looked down and realized his legs were straddling a rattlesnake.

Later that day we were walking a path and found a tarantula sunning itself right on the path, a big one too.

I HATE snakes
