Blue Heron Behind The House

This Blue Heron has bin hanging around behind my house in the wet lands he is a good mouser right before I got this picture I watched him get one He is as good as my cat :thumbsup:

It was on Face Book, the local TV station out of New Orleans are the ones who put it there. I just thought it was too funny, but the 1st thing that popped in my mind was when you posted with the wrong spelling. :laughing9:

Beautiful bird.
They've made quite a comeback in may area. Growing up they were a rare site but now they're becoming common.

I actually befriended a brown heron at one of my fishing holes a few years back. I threw him small fish whenever he was hanging around and it got to where I could practically walk right up to him. It's amazing how animals can sense whether you're a real threat or not.

I also had an old pear tree where a pair of brown herons nested and had their young every spring. I moved from that place years ago but they came the entire 8 years we were there. I believe they mate for life. They may still be there if they're still alive. I have no idea how long they live though.

We have a couple that nest down by the little mill pond behind our place. It's always great seeing them flying over, or landing in a 80ft tree over looking the waters. I just need a better camera with a zoom as these ones hate anyone getting too close, very loud squawk when they're disturbed.

I walked right up on one out in the woods and when it jumped up and flew away it scared the crap out of me.
I was literally right on top of that huge bird.
