This is a category of artifact fairly common in Florida that I don't see much of anywhere else.
I thought it would be nice to start a thread and see what turns up.
The more the merrier.

I believe this one is actually a needle.

Man GB you have some real cool stuff and not just everyday things( you the man):notworthy:

Ha.. thank you for the kind words.
I'm just one of you guys.
I fiberglassed a boat hull in the direct sun all day today.

Nice finds GB, they are not common here.
The only bone left here is under a shelter or washed up from the river.
Thanks for posting,
BCI

I would like to help you out here but bone artifacts just don't survive here. I know of only a couple found around here and they weren't found by me. I really like yours.

Hey GatorBoy!! Nice Finds!! They all appear to be weaving needles for building/repairing fish nets!! Really Neat Finds, being capable of surviving all those years!! CONGRATS!! I'm going to have to come down to the Gold Coast and let you enlighten me!! GOOD HUNTING!! VERDE!!

Awl right Gator ! Here are some pretty fresh pieces saved by me this summer haha. Most are broke by the time they end up in the trash pits. You have some nice ones. Bone does not last long in the ground here. Yours has a swamp patina :tongue3:

Great Pieces Tnmountains!! Wow!! CONGRATS!! As I was saying to GB wouldn't you like to sit down and listen to the artifacts tell you their history!! We unfortunately lose the true historical significance of these artifacts!! Thanks for sharing!! GOOD HUNTING!! VERDE!!

I often wonder also. That is the joy of it to me. We were not a "bone" culture with the abundance of flint here. So any bone tool is a bonus.

Here's a few of my better Bone Pins. I think the Bi Pointed ones were either Nose Pins or maybe Clasps or Toggles. The long one were more than likely Hair Pins.

Its awl good .. thanks for adding your finds TN.
I think I have a swamp patina LOL.

This is what's left of a Deer bone (radius) end after taking off blanks to make bone "pins".
They used gravers and microliths to score across the end of the radius, then scored down along the length of the bone's sides and front to take off the pin preforms. Then they ground them as desired. Where you find bone pins you find these parts of the manufacturing process in various stages, often broken (lack of patience! LOL) "Trigger Awls" are usually made from the Ulna. I've never found a deer ulna tool, I think they used shell for perforation here.

Thanks for sharing Reaper!! Really nice collection!! Were those found in your area or outside of Ohio? VERDE!!

Nice Tom!
Do you think that first piece is a socketed handle..to make use of one of these as an awl or punch type tool?
