Bottle dump find... Need ID

My grandpa dug this from a bottle dump late 60's early 70's... Have had it ever since, I just love it but don't know what it's for

Turkey, has a slot on top about and inch long and half inch deep.. Anyone have any info on this thing would be much appreciated.

Seriously- place card holder. They used them at formal dinner parties back in the day... Yakker p.s. keep in mind the size.
