during my daughter's soccer practice today i took a walk down to the river nearby to look at the scenery and skip some stones... since the river is somewhat tidal i was able to stroll along the bank and after a few yards i noticed a copious amount of broken glass and followed it up the bank.

there along the banking that was eroding a bit i could see all kinds of bottle fragments and pieces of metal jutting out from under tree roots. upon further inspection i realized there was a massive bottle dump stretching for almost 100 feet under the banking.

there were tons of broken pieces that were interesting and then i found a stash of complete bottles and also a what looked like a huge claw from some type of animal. some very curious pieces and i hope to get a chance to look for some more during next weeks practice!

thanks for the reply and giving me a possible timeframe for the bottles...

any idea what the piece is that says "synthetic only" on it? it is a very thick piece and heavy of course.

i forgot to mention another parent there saw me bringing some of the bottles up and she poked around and found a few cool pieces also. one was another pond's jar and one was a really neat looking clear bayer aspirin bottle.

also one of the brown bottles i noticed inside was a dropper still attached to the mostly rotted cover:

great finds and it helps the envirement

did i spell dat right?

So you go on a treasure hunt while your daughter is practicing soccer. When she's done you are filthy and have a trunk full of old bottles and a claw? LOL Man this stuff is SO ADDICTING!!! I'm right there with you brother! Congrats on your bottle finds. And remember, the deeper you get into that bank the older the bottles are likely to be.

Could that claw be a beaver tooth?.

yeah - i think she was also a little embarrassed when i emerged from the banking with three grocery bags and a big smile on my face. but she knows how i am and later on that night she was checking out the finds too. :)

i plan to get back there and check it out again for sure and hope to find some more in-tact pieces.

i was thinking it might be the claw from a beaver or something when i first saw it but i looked up some online and did not find anything that looked close enough to make a positive identification...

you could be right about it being a beaver tooth it could be a lower incisor. i will try and post a better picture and see if anyone knows...
