Detector(s) used
Cobra Beach Magnet, Whites Bullseye II
We ran into a fellow at the beach the other week with a detector - seemed like fun and it has always interested me - so we got a Cobra Beach Magnet and headed out to the beach just before sunset yesterday headed out to the beach (Ocean Beach - San Diego) - they had bulldozed the beach to prepare for the large expected waves - but we still managed to find a couple of rusty nails and a dime :)

Our first time out and we found a coin - made me happy - seems like we will have fun with this.

Overall I think the Cobra is a little tough in wet sand - seemed to hit on the iron in the sand with the discrimination set low - the coin can through as a solid hit and we had a number of very minor hits that seemed to me to be either deep junk or iron in the sand, not certain as we are still getting used to it - but we are heading out today to try again :)

Thanks to listening.

Way to go. We all were nubees once.

What kind of dime? Clad or silver? What is the date?

Glad that you had a good time

1999 Roosevelt dime - nothing too exciting.....Denver mint ;)

I'm thinking of getting one of those cobras after the first of the year. I know this is your first time out with it, keep us informed as to how it works, good and bad.

If you are finding anything, you have a good start!
Everyone told me in the begining that there is a learning curve....
They are right.
Welcome and good luck!

WELCOME from the UK.

Happy hunting

Welcome, the hobby 'grows on you'. ;D

I am still getting used to beach detecting myself. Stick with it and it will pay off. There is treasure hidden under every foot step. happy hunting and good luck.

Went back out today - had a good time - found a couple of nickles, another dime and a quarter.

Also found a couple of tent stakes and at the bay we found a huge number of nails near the fire pits..... :-\

Overall I am having a blast - plan on trying a very popular park area to see what I can find in the grass.

The cobra is working great and I am getting used to how it works - coins really light it up - the nails were definite hits and the tent stakes were very solid as well. No experience with jewelry....yet... :) It is rather heavy - the only drawback I see so far....

when you get a good signal, the sensation of weight disappears
