Could have been a counterweight for a scale.Would have had a hook in the top to hang from the scale beam.

Could be a"Pea" for an old balance beam scale, Tony

I think we are pretty sure it is a weight from an old scale, or at least it seems so. Monty

Thanks input. Just wondered if anyone had found similar and could post a picture weight scale usage?

What exactly is the weight in grams? There may be a matching number on it. Would be nice to see a pic of what solved it.

2.8 oz. Don't see any markings and doubt cleaning will help (plus I like the patina).

It's a medicine bottle stopper...wag!

The tapered shape could indicate a stopper function.

Don't think you can get the exact weight because part of it is missing, looks like it broke off at the top? Monty

I see your point that the weight could have been higher if another piece was attached. I did clean out the dirt in the hole to see if any tread (none). I'm thinking a rod was inserted into the hole and then bent to follow the channel on top.
