Brass (?) Whatsit from CW (?)

I dug this last winter at a site where a big fight was at the Battle of Ft. Donelson (Dover TN). It was found with dropped and fired minie's, case shot, and cannon ball fragments. Not saying this is related or even CW, but it has the 'patina'.

It is round (was originally), and has one female thread going around the inside. As you can see from the picture, there is a small notch at the top (bottom ?) that is opposite the 'seam'. There are no markings or writing on it anywhere, but I haven't 'cleaned' it other than with water and an old toothbrush.

Let me know what you think, and thanks for your help.

Looks like a brass bushing with a grease channel in it. I've seen plenty used on farm/construction equipment, but I don't remember seeing one split like that.
