🔎 UNIDENTIFIED Brass whatzit from civil war site

This brass whatzit is interesting. This is a civil war site, but it was also a farm before it was a school. It looks like an end piece that broke off of something. Does anyone with civil war relic experience recognize this or is it more modern? Any help would be appreciated. (The grid is 1/4 inch blocks for size reference)
