It snowed a tiny bit last night but I really wanted to go detecting. I went up to preservation area that has trails and old foundations, etc. Because of the snow and no leaves I was able to spot a cellar hole just off the path. I found a few nails and this nifty buckle with a pretty design near what I think was the front steps. My Harbor freight pinpointer got dirty and quit so I did too!
I tried the blue background and I adjusted to make it as true to the color as I could. Wow, didn't even know what I got!

That's a great 18th century knee buckle! There will be more goodies at that spot!!

Wait- What do I have?

Re: Braved the snow and found a buckle

Whoa! That is absolutely beautiful. Would live to find a complete one like that. Thats so much better than just finding a run of the mill coin from the same era.

Re: Braved the snow and found a buckle

Bev, you found a beautifully designed 1700 era knee or breech buckle, you should rephotograph that against a blue background perhaps to show the beauty of the buckle!

Gorgeous buckle -- luv it! :icon_thumright: Might want to try the new Garrett pinpointer or a Vibraprobe (what I use, but I have an X-1 on my SE pro and Etrac) - the Harbor Freight stuff scares me :D Again - super find!!

Re: Braved the snow and found a buckle

Snow ? None here in NH yet and we are getting outta here & heading south a week from today. Very cool find and the others are right. You need to hit that spot hard & slow down & listen for the deeper faint signals. You've found an old homesite and possibly one that hasn't been hunted before. Be careful though. It's deer season and the flatlanders will be out shooting at anything that moves... They come up here and shoot at cows, tractors, eachother, etc. :coffee2:

Re: Braved the snow and found a buckle

Awesome buckle! :icon_thumleft: Congratulations!

Just getting our first bit of snow here in NY right now.

Thanks Bandit,
I was wearing my red and I was only a few hundred feet in from the road but I know how crazy they can get. I try not to go too far in because I have life insurance and my husband always reminds me that he needs the body!

The snow is gone already and supposed to warm up in the middle of the week, I'll try there again at that time!

Congratulations on that beautiful 1700s knee buckle. :hello2: I would take that in a Colonial heartbeat and be satisfied to end my year. I would hit that site again. :icon_thumleft:

Kirk :hello:

I guess since I didn't even know what I found, the next logical question is could it be silver and how do I clean it?
It looks like I have a big "something" stuck to the back of it. I'm not allowed to play with batteries so until Terry has the time to make up something for me I can't try electrolysis!
I read that the more ornate they are they more of a status symbol they were showing someone's wealth, is that true?

Nice buckle you found there Bev, well done :icon_thumleft:.

I have asked "Santa" for a Garret pinpointer, and a rock tumbler too!

Oh Dean! You're close to me! Are you organizing any group field trips????

Wow...beautiful buckle, Bev!

Nice save! Congrats! :icon_thumright:
