Does this look to be a bridal rosette? I can't see where anything was attached to the back. It's pretty thin.
I think it dates to the 1860's, but not sure if it is military.
I have found military buttons/buckles in this area, but it is on the west coast in an area not necessarily known for a lot of military action.
