Definitely British. Note the famous British "Broad Arrow" marking. Your yardsale-bargain bayonet appears to be a Martini P-1876 socket-bayonet, for use on the Martini-Henry breechloading rifle (made famous to us Americans in the excellent Historical movies "Zulu" and "Zulu Dawn"). Your bayonet's locking-ring is missing. The scabbard you bought with it appears to be the Mark-III version, which is correct for use with the Martini P-1876 bayonet.
