No idea what it was doing in my front yard here in Ohio, but pulled out a 1906 british penny from my yard today.

What you don't expect to find, is often the most interesting find!

Reminds me of the old expression (still true in 1906) "the sun never sets on the British Empire " They got around !

the unexpected brings the smile

This hobby is like fishing, you never know what you are going to come home with. That's why we are are so addicted to it! Congrats on an awesome find:occasion14:

Brought home by a WW1 or WW2 veteran? Cool find, Sub 8-)

That's the 4th or 5th one I have seen posted on here in the last year or so. I found one myself in front of an elementary school. I guess they are a bit more common than we think.

..... I guess they are a bit more common than we think.
Way to be a killjoy Old Dude! :) But, I was kinda thinking that myself. Looking it up, they minted almost 40 million of that coin that year, so it really isn't that rare of a coin over there. It's just a little more harder to find over here since it's not native. There is probably some english guy over there right now all happy about finding an indianhead penny and wondering how it got in his yard. Sub is probably right in thinking that a WWI or II vet brought it back in change.

Great find! Thanks for sharing...

I know they are reasonably common in my parts, but there are still some scarce years and variations of certain dates that are highly sort after.
It's always worth a google search to check what you have.

Congrats! I found a 1938 one last summer in FL.

Interesting find, I agree with DDU, Google that coin, I love checking dates!

Neat find congrats! I like finding foreign coins, especially old ones! Gets you to thinking.

That's a lot better than the guy from Australia that found two of our stinking Lincoln's !

Very nice indeed... I like any and all old coins, foreign or domestic... Found this little guy a few days ago, how I wish they could talk, what a story they could tell. Congrats..

Cool find! Like I've said before "Foreign coins are the Icing on Metal detectings cake!" Have found a couple of those large green pennies before and now always consider it to be a sign that the spot is worth more hunting.

Back in the olden days (1960's) we were given some of these to play with. I growed up on the west Coast, so they had to be fairly common, since we was Po Folks.

Nice Find

I fund a great Britain queen Victoria penny here in Southern Nebraska from 1893 and a 5 yen coin from japan and a 50 pense coin from Great Britain ....funny how these coins show up where you'd never expect them to be. I think I have them posted on here somewhere.
