Broken bridge on the San Joaquin River

Many have said dig down to clay to find the gold. Where is this clay? Is It in the main channel of the river? I’m digging in the upper banks down 2 feet and no clay only sand. Where should I be looking.

Clay is like gold. It’s where you find it. Is there any gravel where you are digging or are you on the San Joaquin in the delta. If you are in the delta with no gravel in site your chances of getting any sizable gold is about nil.

I’m below Friant Dam near Fresno California there is a lot of cobble rocks in the area. Finding some flood gold but I think I could do better if I was digging clay.

8ft. That’s a lot of work. I thought 2ft was a lot.
